	in all fairness, it is all up to the cop. it all depends on how nice you were to him/her and how much he feels like fuckin you over.. a friend of mine was walkin towards an abandoned factory one day. he had a flashlight stickin out of his pocket. a cop pulled over, got out and talked to him."you goin to the factory?" said the cop. my friend convinced him that his mother told him to always bring a flashlight around with him in minneapolis in the night. my point is, if the cops hes reason to tresspass you even if yer not on the prop., he can do what he wants. now, if he writes you up, and yer not on private property, you can fight it in court, but then its up to how much the judge likes you...

	^^^ yes a lot of the time it depends on the cop whether you get a ticket or not... HOWEVER I recently learned in Business Law there is something called "______ nuissance" can't remember what goes in the blank. But basically it has to deal with if you own a piece of property that is an abandoned house or a construction site or something that looks really cool, you - as a reasonable person, cannot expect people to stay off of your property and you must take extra care to keep people out. I think putting up a fence works here, but a simple no trespassing sign doesn't cut it. I'm not sure how this will work in court but i do know this little part of the law exists.

	In California, they have the same law (Attractive Nuisance), the owner has to take reasonable means (whatever that means), to ensure that the property is marked. In any case, the owner is still deemed 'sueable' if someone is hurt on the property, signs or not. Wishing I was Jack Dalton just to have all the cool leftovers...

	I dunno about elsewhere, but in this part of france, if someone hurts themselves while trespassing in an abandoned building, the person who owns the building is responsible, as he owns an unsafe building with insufficient security. In other words, if entering a building in france is unsafe, there needs to be a climbproof fence around it. Putting a "no trespassing" sign at the front isn't good enough, as not everyone in france can speak french. The french courts seem to recognise that abandoned buildings sing siren songs to the curious, and the spraycan/prybar wielding, their legal system works in favour of appropriate security measures. 	While checking out a quarry in PA, I had the unfortunate experience of two state cops catching me. After checking my ID and reading me the riot act about tresspassing, they escorted me to where a No Tresspassing sign was . . . er where one was supposed to me. Seems someone (not me, this was before my straying to the dark side) had ripped the sign down. cop shined his flashlight up to the tree saying, " Didn't you see that si. . . oh, well there used to be a sign there" I quickly said , "Why no, I didn't see any sign Officer" I walked with only a warning. My point is that if no signs exist, the police may not prosecute. You could remove the signs (A no no in true UE), or maybe you could somehow cover them up while inside and then remove the covers when you leave. Another goofy option would be to remove the signs, and when you leave, post up brand new ones (ha ha, this would be someone with the morals of a Saint) The owner may even be thankful for the new signs.

It's only happened to me once, and had nothing to do with UE. Actually, it was back in high school. Some friends and I needed to find a place to meet up one evening, and for some reason chose the top of a Hyatt parking garage. We showed up and were acting kind of rowdy (loud music, shooting off a paintball gun... I know, bad ideas... guess whose gun it was too), and the security got antsy. We later found out that they were particularly nervous because Prince was staying there that night and he's obviously a high security objective. Anyways, they told us to leave, which we did, but right before pulling out of the exit, a guard jumped out in front of my car, stuck a big heavy stop sign in front of us, and refused to let us leave, telling us that they had called the police.

In retrospect, I have no idea why we didn't just move the sign, pushed him down, and left. But we waited for the cops to came, and he wrote us trespass tickets. They didn't, however, hold up in court -- we had complied with a request to leave, and were then prevented from doing so.

By the way, there doesn't need to be a visible sign for trespassing charges to be brought up, for those who have brought it up. Going over some of the previous posts on the topic, especially those outlining the law in detail, should make that clear.

	Yes, some people are definately assholes. Near me, there is a canyon. This canyon is a wonderful place that I intend on exploring soon. It has train tunnels, very old buildings, storm drains, and a "secret sidewalk" which is basically a road that leads up the sides of the hills. The only problem is, alot of people go there to smoke weed and the like, so the property owners have been cautious lately. There have also been reports of people killing cattle, which even I find unusual. Anyway, numerous people have reported being threatened with death by a strange man who drives a Jeep or Land Rover and has a rifle. There is another person who takes pictures of people and threatens to turn it over to police. I don't mind the second one, but the idea of being threatened by some old guy with a rifle saddens me. 	People are going nuts, man... A guy who take pictures to blackmail? A rifle-wielding nut? I think poeple are starting to lose it 'en mase'... trespassing laws = dont get caught... =D I think it really all depends on the people... face it, if they really want you to pay a fine for trespassing, they will win... its an age of constitutional abandonment... damn Patriot Acts... the courts are a joke now-a-days...
