Camera Tutorial
< on 1/4/2007 9:03 PM >

ok finally got around to it it. I did upload some pics to this and have no idea if it worked. so here is a tutorial
it is short and sweet

Security Camera Tutorial

Fixed cameras:
you see these in the bank all the time as a bonus some banks actually have a monitor showing you on cam a great way to check out the capability of the camera
These cameras only see what they are pointing at.

Fixed with manual zoom pretty much the same as fixed with the exception of manual zoom, it is manually set and can only be adjusted on the cam .

PTZ Domes:
If you have been in a Casino they are all over the ceiling these move and are capable of following you they pan (moving 360 degrees) Tilt (up and down) and Zoom a great distance the black dome is so you cannot see what it is looking at
The PTZ Outdoor cam is the same only it has a different housing and you can see it moving.

IR Cams:
Infra Red sees in the dark can have the capabilities of all the above cameras.
Except the image is Black and White.

What a surveillance system can do:
It can detect motion and send an alert to an alarm company or the owners PC or Cell Phone and even call the police as well as take your picture as in photograph as well as video.
Bosch makes a camera the that will follow motion if you walk by it, it will follow you.
I have never worked with that camera but have read the specs on it sounds pretty cool.

Who is watching:
Depending on the site it could be a security detail or some old retired guy or simply no one. If a site has PTZ Cameras it is a good bet that someone is watching.
Generally people are not glued to the cameras they have paperwork or some other menial task to do.
Some systems with a lot of cameras will channel them on one monitor a few seconds on each camera then it switched to the next kind of like flipping channels on TV.
Some systems use multiplexing all the cameras on a single screen
If the camera is motion active then when motion is detected it will go to full screen on that camera.
Another thing to note with digital systems the software is very cool if you have a camera pointed at an area that has no traffic and someone walks by and the next day they want to see who walked by you can scan on playback for the movement and it will go to that point very simple yet not good for any explorer. So cover yourself.

Any surveillance system is as good as the people watching it.
If you are in an area with surveillance look like you belong there don’t duck and cover
That will attract attention, Hoodies too attract attention as well as looking paranoid.
There is one sure way to knock out a camera from a distance but I wont share that
Shining a light on it will not work as all have auto iris features now.

Thanks for the tutorial. Interesting stuff there.

IBM smart camera systems do much more than any that.

hmm not familiar with IBM systems.
What more could they do? I worked mainly with Pelco and Sony sytems as well as Burle Analog Cameras
Pelco was Considered at one time the industry leader.

DOD's system of choice. You won't believe what it can do. What can't it do is the correct statement.

Do you think you can go more in depth of this tutorial? It seems pretty...obvious in some sense. Answer some basic questions first.

What is a camera tutorial used for?

How many types of cameras are there?

Are certain types more used than other? Specific Examples?

What is this tutorial for? Why?

If you answer more of those questions and make it more concise and it'll be an even better tutorial.

Want to stop a camera? Have a friend shine a laser pointer in it as you walk by, it won't be able to adjust for anything. Of course, your friend better have a steady hand.

I heard some cameras can adjust to this. How positive are you that this works?

And what about the security guards watching the camera (if there is one or some)??

A camera can't adjust to a laser bouncing around inside the lens, at least, not to my knowledge. And if they're watching they're going to see some freaky crap going on in their camera and probably investigate. Either way, you have to be perfectly centered on the camera's lens, which is no easy task.

Test it out with a camcorder or webcam.

The laser idea is assuming it's a auto-focusing camera. A lot of static security cameras have fixed focus that is set at installation. You'd have to hit the element of the CCD to have any effect, and that would be damn good aim from--what? 200ft? 300ft? I'd rather run for it.

you could always build a rfid zapper, i mean ya you'll destroy the camera, but maybe its worth it. If you don't know what a rfid zapper is, think big magnet, copper wire, big ass capacitor... ya Google it. any way, just one way to do it..

Wouldn't you LOVE to be found with that. Even if you weren't trespassing the police would take you if they found you holding it.

That's not gonna do a thing. Don't be so sure they won't find something either. That is far too much trouble to risk/cause to merely explore, even if it did work.

I agree that That people who engage in either UE or infiltration should know something about cameras and potential security, the best way to deal with cameras is still to avoid them, so knowing what a given camera is capable of doing is never bad info to have.

The best advice I can give for DOD and I’m sure what ever Canada’s equivalent is (MOD?) sites is unless you're absolutely SURE you know what your doing. stay far away from these places. The Gov’t has not been in a good mood lately regarding potentially sensitive sites. It’s also a good idea to remember that the Gov’t generally has a lot more money to spend on intruder detection systems then we have money to spend on ways to defeat them.

The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave.

I doubt it - even if they did the picture would be too underexposed to be useful. Blinding a camera really defeats the purpose, however, the point is not to attract attention to yourself. If you really want to conceal your identity you can simply try ... facing away from the camera?

AVE...

You can always conceal your identity. Even if the camera will film you, they won't know who are you.

You can also use small HERF generator. Practise shows that it will disable any electronic device by polarising its components. Device won't work till next restart. It will deal with cameras and motion detectors. But won't unlock electric locks and keypads. Very small HERF device was made by my friend, it was able to freeze any device from distance of 5 cm. I'm planning to prepare battery powered device with 10m range. And with mass less than 10kg, very compact for this power. If anyone cath you with that kind of device, you can always say: "This is my cellphone..."

Living in Poland is like searching for a key in a pool full of used syringes.
You never know, what you get...
