So what does everyone take to 'the field' (for lack of a better word) with them? Food? Water? Camera? Leftover Betos? GPS? Radios? Pen and paper? Hookers and Blow? Gas meter? Protective Mask (AKA Gas Mask)? Credibility Props? Nachos from 7-11?

Im curious to see what everyone carries with them into the dark unknown and what people think are good things to keep around whilst exploring....especially aboout the communications....cause im thinking about investing a little more cash in that stuff...

I'm rocking a small messenger bag to transport my gear. I need a much bigger one. I'm planning on upping the ante on a lot of my gear.

LED Headlamp (2 red, 1 white)
2D Maglite w/ 3w LED
Spare bulb for Maglite
2 additional D batteries
3 additional AAA batteries for headlamp
Latex gloves
Climbing gloves
3 respirator masks, one with P-100 filters
If available, my stash and compact glass piece.
If I'm feeling itchy, a 36" fiberglass single bit axe.

I'm hoping to up my Mag to a 4D, get a bigger bag, and maybe start sporting some climbing gear. Also, as soon as I get a battery for my digicam, that will be coming as well.

Typically when I rollout from Command Outpost Delta upon a strategic infiltration mission to a nearby barn/house I arm myself with the latest in tactical equipment.

In my combat vest I always stow:
- 8 D cell maglite with scope and laser targeting
- secure satellite phone and scambler for comms with headquarters.
- Military spec GPS 2.0 (the barn is pretty rural for XTREME UEING)
- compass and map so if the GPS fails I can find the maximog urban assault vehicle.
- Gen 5 russian night vision penetrates even the darkest dark of the barn.
- Full hazmat suit with Anti-Junkster Needle Technology
- portable bbq and sausages to distract hobos
- collapsible nuclear jetpack for outflying the black helicopters
- 6-7 spare lonely chairs for photo setups
- a Ripley like exoskeleton for fighting off rogue xenomorphs
- toilet plungers with thread-steel lanyards for building ascents
- Cray supercomputer for crunching my phonecam photos and streaming them direct to myspace in real time.
- my little pony to silently and quickly make good my escape
- a stealth black grandfather clock so I get home just in time for dinner

Yeah I'm MAD TAKTIKAL BIAAAAAAAAAAATCH

Okay that's a lie. The only common items I pack are a headlamp and keychain LED as a backup. If you're happy getting caught looking like a BadGuy then be my guest ;)

I would certainly love to have more 'toys' in my 'sac magique' but need to discover something called 'disposable income' !

Er. a flashlight and my camera?
Sometimes my respirator if needed, and sometimes my multitool. Depends on the target. But mostly I minimalize the weight I'm carrying so I can run faster.

It's not how much excess gear you're carrying, it's how you use what you have.

It seemed like a good idea at the time...

Jesus Christ people, it's UE, not a zombie attack. I thought the character of Burt from 'Tremors' was a parody but the over-preparedness of you guys has cured me of that notion.

My UE kit is usually a flashlight and a camera, sometimes a water bottle.

Man oh man I wish I had a suit with "anti-junkster technology"...

Anyway, maybe it's just a Utah thing, but I really don't ever carry anything unnecessary.
Lets hear it for Utah, woo.

- Jacket
- Gloves
- Full Stomach
- Small, but very bright, LED light (why would I want to hop a barbed wire fence with a 4D mag?)
- Bump Keys and File
- Camera (on rare occasions)
- Friends
- Lighter
- Money and Credit Card, for food. And my ID, For safety really (I once got caught trespassing, and the cop was super pissed I didn't carry an ID. I guess getting sent to the hospital without one can put a damper on things if you need proof of health insurance)
- Phone (another safety thing, plus I would have been busted in Utah Theatre if my friend didn't call and warn about the cops entering the front door)

Whenever we go, there's usually one person who gets a little nervous and decides to stay behind (which is nice to alert us for security on the phone). But in the future I'm thinking about investing in a police scanner and some radios.

When I was younger I would bring mace and a butterfly knife.
Over time I realized that was pretty useless, and suspicious as well.

So really all my gear fist in 2 pockets. Avoiding police/security/barbed wire with a bag, or 10 bags of gear would be extremely annoying and a big hindrance.
I could only imagine someone using all that gear if they were going to infiltrate the Peterson's Barn down the street and make-believe they're in a spy movie.
If your actually in a city sneaking into a building where there's actually people looking to catch you. Bringing a ton of junk is not going to be helpful at all.

Never take more than you need.
Never need more than you take.

You never know when the Necropocalypse is going to hit.

A lot of the stuff I listed is only taken when other people need to borrow equipment or if there is going to be a photo shoot. UrbEx makes for a perfect "post-apocalyptic" photo sesh.

Depending on where we're going, I take my Dakine hydration pack or my gigantic Chrome Kremlin messenger bag (could easily carry a few cases of beer, but it has a big white reflective strip that kind of throws me off).

Then:
-Jacket or hoodie if it's nipply
-Gloves...I ride bikes, and prefer thin dirtjumping gloves for operating camera controls
-My little camera/case
-Tripod
-LED headlamp
-Sometimes a multi-tool
-If deemed necessary, me and Pirate have a big pair of bolt cutters we will tote around, but usually not...they're kinda sketch. And only fit in the messenger bag.

That's about it...last time at Geneva made me want water, though.

I carry my camera bag with Nikon D70 DSLR camera including lenses, extra batteries and memory cards; camera tripod (possible weapon in the event of attack!); small Maglite flashlight; a pen and Sharpie; pocketknife; and Leatherman like tool. I prefer to travel light and since my primary intent is to take photographs I carry mostly photo gear.

I've come to the conclusion that the larger your "kit", the less likely it is that you actually go out and explore things.

That's right. I'm talking to you, Olaf!

I carry 2 kinds of rope (one thick one that could support my weight if I really need it, and a tiny thin delron string for general purpose stuff), a couple of cheap flashlights, a chunk of rebar (for propping open doors- it doesn't look suspicious), several knives, binoculars, gloves, pliers and wire snippers, and NO CAMERA! I don't ever take pictures once I'm "on the inside"- I don't wan't to be carrying a photographic record of the crimes I've committed.

I put it all in an ordinary backpack.

I've never taken them before, but next time I'll probably take my set of ninja foot/hand claws and grappling hook- just to see if they help at all. I 'm not sure they will, though.

Wow.
I've got a little black army-surplus pack that's fantastic, sits high on the back, doesn't bounce around. I've had it for years. It's patched and reinforced all around. Maglite, gloves, water. I've got room for an extra layer and gear, if the weather warrants it. I like to keep it simple, keep it light. I change it around for the situation, but this is really good for most.
I got my start in drains, so perhaps that is reflected in my pack.
I'm not a camera-kid, but I explore with them. I'll act as sherpa, if needed.

And my sins are so unoriginal.
I have all the self-loathing of a wolf in sheep's clothing
In this carnival of cannibals, Heaven help me
