| | | Last I'd heard it was still abandoned, but some new fencing has gone up, not hampering access. Interestingly, it is now viewable via Google Maps, which used to produce one of those "you cannot view this, ha ha!" blurs: http://maps.google...9,0.00176&t=h&om=1
Mmmm... the sweet smell of damp concrete. <3 |

| | | There is some VERY cool old stuff around there -- a longtime CIA radio facility & an even more secret CIA post nuclear war mobile command center garage, both shut down after Hurricane Andrew, was located near the Miami Zoo along Krome Ave. If I recall right, in the 1980s/1990s US Customs had a major radio comms/intelligence center nearby that was known as 'Slingshot' on the radio, and then the USCG/USCS had their 'Blue Lightning Operations Center' ("BLOC") around there, possibly at the old SLINGSHOT site. Just going by memory, so I'm not 100% sure that SLINGSHOT/BLOC was there, but the Agency's two separate operations definitely was.

It's completely abandoned, though kids with small flashlights show up there at all hours during the night. It's pretty popular now. I got a set of pics from this place on my flickr account. Here is one of them:
It's listed on this page as HM-95c so I assume it is a Nike missile site: http://ed-thelen.org/loc-f.html

| | | I should add that this is south of the Correctional Facility by 1.3 miles I think. The correctional facility is where the silos were/are and that place is active as far as I know.

| | | I actually went there several times(first 2 times to scared to go from all the ghost stories and shit lol) but its a friegtning place lots of spooky stuff there. My camera always manages to die out when i get there, I swear to God, and i never manage to grap some decent pics at nite, but there is something more than graffiti there, theres something very wrong about that place. Anyone got pics?

Dude, did you see my post? I got a whole set on flickr of the place. I don't think it's frightening or spooky, but I can see why people may think it is. I've taken many pictures at night. Here is another one:

It's an AI controlled robot for a competition. The gun looking thing shoots ping pong balls really hard through a hoop. It's a sort of modified basketball. I'll build a multistage coil gun eventually though.

Thanks! Every inch of that place seems to be covered in paint. It's also used a lot for paintball.

| | | i went there this afternoon. the place is a MESS. i like the paintball concept, but MAN there was like 3 inches of putrifying paintballs all over the property... the place is rather typical, nothing unique about it except for some nice graff though... pictures up shortly i'll admit that if i was stoned, i'd experience a slight hiphop-evildead aura on that location there were a couple of kids fucking around with a green 4 door parked by the barrier. they drove away the second they heard me knocking things over : )

| | | Yeah, the floor is a real mess. I've thought about going in there with a flat shovel and cleaning the place out, should be good exercise.
The decomposing paintballs have a unique smell. :p The graffiti is constantly changing. Every month it seems to be completely different in some of the more popular areas. Some of them are pretty cool. Scaring people there is SOOO easy. lol It's fun. Once I was hiding in a room in there in the night with brookhaven. He pointed my green laser pointer at the chest of one of the guys though a window and some trees/bushes. The guy just looked down at his chest and said "fuck this!" and they all went running. Haha

| | | The Miami area had Nike & Hawk batteries, IIRC. The images might be of an old Nike IFC, but they could also be of the old CIA site. I'll look on the Flickr page & see if I can figure it out. A friend who visited the CIA site a couple years ago did indicate it was completely 'sanitized' and completely trashed.

| | | It's the old CIA site -- very higly classified back in the day, involved in sending/receiving radio transmissions to operatives in the Caribbean & S. America. Even more sensitive, a 'black' mobile command center was stored there in a warehouse type structure in the back, and would move out of the area during a nuclear crisis.

| | | Hey, I'm new.
I tried to go here 2 weekends ago, and saw a bunch of flashlights and heard paint balls guns, so we decided not to bother, as I didn't want to get paint on my new d40...will have to try again...
