For me, it's all about the one piece red lumberjack underwear. With the buttflap.

you frighten me!

as far as shopping updates-
I got a patagonia set of thermals, a set of thermals from rangersurplus.com that are so thick they are like sweatpants and some thermals from the boys section of target. I'm up in mass this weekend and I have all three thermal layers on plus the bdu pants overtop.
I'm pretty pitiful though with all this on. its only been 40-50 degrees C.

I could not find the target body armour but will go back for another look. bought some thermal boot socks and those chemical footwarmers (at target and walmart) and a bunch of hats and ear warmers at the dollar store.
gloves will be another important mission.

My experience wtih Carhart-brand stuff is that they're a lot like a wetsuit... warm, yes; but not easy to get around. Check your local hunting/fishing/outdoor shop and try 'em on before spending $150 on a full suit.

defiantly not but you wont rip anything. Also with several layers on anyways, your gonna feel like the Michelin Man anyhow.

Carharts can be had used and new in used clothing shops for $30. I wouldnt by them full price!

Under armor all the way! I too cannot take temperature extremes after having chemo. It is expensive, I paid about $120 for a top and bottom. they work on the basis of constriction so they are pretty tight. I only need a fleece jacket or sweatshirt over it and I'm fine. So much easier to move too. I found mine at a sports shop since its big ski wear. They also have socks. I've tried some of the cheaper stuff, but you get what you pay for.

Under Armour also makes you feel a little bit thinner and more agile than you actually are. I'm a big guy, and I feel like tinkerbell with it on... ok, nm...lol

Living up here I've learned to deal with layers.

I am usually set with a lighter pair of pants, sometimes military issue and some long johns.

On top a sweatshirt over a tshirt, though recently I've moved on to more "activity" oriented gear, like some of Wilson's, akin to underarmour but this stuff is actually affordable.

I also wear a pair of opaque black tights when I know I'm going to be cold. I also have a pair of wool/aluminum blend socks (unbelievably warm, but slightly itchy).

Besides that, I will reiterate--layers! And knit wool hats or fleece hats!

I usually just dress in layers. Like somebody mentioned above, if its real cold I will put on the silk thermals along with some thin polyester socks. I have a decent pair of gore-tex boots, so theyre extremely warm, yet cool in the summer. Usually, underneath my jacket I will wear an undershirt, longsleeve tshirt, then my parka over top. I used to have pretty long hair, but I shaved it all off, so now I wear my beanie.

As far as gloves go, I use those tight fitting cotton liner gloves, and it its particularly cold, I'll have those on, plus some mittens.

i have these gloves in a winter knit
http://www.lowes.c...169-545&lpage=none

they have a latex coating which helps either climbing or holding onto things
they are really warm too they are pretty cheap for the price
I use them either out exploring/ hiking in the cold or working in the garage(no heat) they are great and for the money you can get two of them
I found them at Lowes but im sure they can be found other places

Not many people have said too much about proper footwear.

As an avid hiker I can tell you from experience that if you want warm feet, you need some sort of non-cotton liner socks. Just about every sporting goods store will have them (If you really dont know what kind to get, go to your local EMS or REI store ant tell them you want to get hiking liner socks).

The liners worn under wool socks will keep your feet very warm and comfortable.

Oh.. and as far as gloves go, i suggest the kind that have the half fingers and the fold over mitten piece. that keeps your fingers warm and allows you to have good dexterity by simply folding back a flap.
