Photon II Micro light

Now most of us probably bring more than one light with us on an explore right? Well I want to tell you about a small light I picked up about a week ago. I ordered two Photon II Micros from TadGear a week and a half ago and they arrived last Friday. For the past several months I have been looking for a really good light to go on my keychain survival kit (more on that later).

I have tried numerous generic keychain lights, from the Innova brand to the tiny Maglite deals and several lights I have no idea of the manufacturer they are so generic. I had a Pelican L1 micro light on my keychain for months, it was decent but a tad bulky and underpowered, not to mention it wasn't really waterproof as advertised.

Well last week I had bought batteries for everything as I go through them like candy so when my Photons got here my lights were all juiced up. I figured it would be a good idea to see just how well they measured up to all my other lights. I waited until full dark on a heavily cloud filled night and took all my lights outside, about 12 of them in all.

The Photon micro outshined EVERY light I have except the 1mil CP marine light. It outburned all my freshly juiced maglites, all my generics, everything. Not only this but the Photon is the smallest light I have, the slimmest, narrowest of them all. The Photon II's come with a momentary on/off button and a slider for continuous illumination. They have a few small drawbacks such as not being waterproof and the slider is a little too easy to activate making them not the perfect covert light. However given their size and superb light output I highly recommend picking one up.

My two lights are both white LED's, I remember thinking as I was placing my order "I should get a redlight but they can't possibly be powerful enough to really be useful being they are so small". Well I was wrong. I can stand on my porch and view my entire yard with this tiny thing. I was so impressed the first time I turned one on that I went back and ordered two redlights as well. They are so powerful I fear using them on night explorations which is why I am getting the red LED's soon.

Anyway if you are looking for a good backup light, emergency light or something small and worth the money I know of no better light you can buy. I will include photos of the light with other generics and light output comparisons within a day or so.

Hope you realize these things have short battery life. I've got the "freedom micro 2x brighter" version, half life is quoted about 40 minutes or so, but maybe the processor is chewing up significant energy. YMMV!

Yeah, you got the one that sucks up twice the juice. But still, they are extremely portable and have great light output.
