you think so? do these look out of focus to you? I have a tripod, it's just so cumbersome. You never know when you'll need to crawl on your belly for a shot, and fitting a tripod through narrow entrances is such a pain in the ass.

Banned or not, he brought up good points, stickied right there at the top of the 'photo critiques' board. Rule #1 in particular. You want useful feedback, follow the rules.

that was an interesting read. i have to say, many people on this sight do not follow those rules. i've been following this forum silently for about a year, and I've seen many a post much larger than six per. i think it's interesting that you choose to employ rules on a sight dedicated to the breaking of laws. you give subversive-types a forum to express themselves, and then set up rules. Rules for lawbreakers. you gotta love the irony. then, in order to enforce these rules, you censor and ban. wow. we are so enlightened.

i really do not want to cause any waves. but, it's in my nature to point out bullshit when i see it.

with that said, i'll keep my posts reasonable. wouldn't want to upset the system or anything.

Im pretty sure that the reason why the small amount of pics rule is there is so that you might be able to get individual critiques for each picture. Just like in real life If you were to show someone your portfolio and it has 100 pictures in it, the person looking at it will lose interest. On the other hand if there are only 10 or so people tend to spend more time looking at each picture.

i think it's interesting that you choose to employ rules on a sight dedicated to the breaking of laws.

First, I didn't write the rules. Second, we break laws which we feel serve no useful purpose, but we still follow our own rules - no break & enter, no tools of destruction, etc, etc, etc. We are not dedicated to the breaking of laws, we are dedicated to seeing that which we feel we should be able to see, if we are willing to take responsibility for our own actions. There's a big difference.

The max 6 picture 'rule' is there because this forum (as opposed to the normal 'photography' forum) is here for people to get constructive criticism on their photography. If that's what you want, post less photos, and you're far more likely to get useful comments. If all you want is comments like

post in the normal photography forum. If you want to post here to get good feedback on how to improve your photography skills, having some respect for the way it's done will get you much further. Pick the ones that either really work for you, or really don't and you'd like to know why, post 5 or 6, and you'll get all sorts of useful advice along with the useless commentary.

yep.

you're mincing words. in order to see what we want to see, we must break the law of the land again and again. the kind of person who is willing to do that, is less likely to bend for any kind of rule. furthermore, the kind of person who does u.e. is probably "dedicated" to seeing and going where they shouldn't-- thereby, "dedicating" themselves to lawbreaking. It's just a part of the game.

I understand what you're saying about smaller posts. People lack the attention span it takes to digest over six photos at a time. It's a shame, but true all the same. And, in the future, if I ever decide to post here again... I'll keep that in mind.

To be honest, I watched in silent for a year or so, and never posted just because I was put off by all the snobbishness and zenophobia here. Oh yes, there are plenty of nice people who're willing to give constructive crits, but more often some jerk with a stick up his ass has to come along and shake down his pissing turf. It's lame.

I'm not mincing words, or pissing anywhere. This isn't my territory, and I'm not a jerk. I was just trying to explain to you why earlier replies from other people seemed snobby and xenophobic to you. No need to overreact or get angry, just take out the ones that are blurry, post up 6 to 8 of what you consider your best, and everything's cool.

If the whole 'rule' thing rubs you the wrong way, then consider it a sign of respect, that when you're asking a board of fairly accomplished photographers for review, criticism or advice, that you don't post up a boatload of photos. Laws or rules or whatever withstanding, a professional photographer (and there are a number here) is not going to scroll down a page of 20 photos on a forum and give you any comments that you can learn from. The format of a forum by its nature makes it a very poor place to view photos. The less there are, the easier they are to look at. Borders and a few carriage returns between images never hurt anyone either.

The first portfolio review I ever had, maybe 10 years ago, I showed up with 16 photos, and the editor took one quick look, and told me to come back in 5 minutes with half of them gone. He wasn't as polite as people are here, either, but he still ended up giving me an internship a couple months later, and I learned quite a bit from him and from the experience.

So, short story long, don't go on the attack, or get all defensive. Take it in stride, understand that the stick in everyone else's ass isn't personal, and post up with 6 or 7 images for quality, constructive criticism, from a decent number of people that you can learn a lot from.

yep.

point well taken

just to be clear, I didn't mean to imply that you are the embodiment of the complaints I listed. I don't know you well enough to make any kind of remark on your character. I meant my comment to be a sort of general observation.

thanks,

No. 19 has a great feeling, but it's just a little blurry.
