| | | So ive noticed that there are many different qualities of abandoned buildings, obviously. In my town theres this old garage that I always walk by but never really had any interest in exploring cause 1.) I couldnt see in side and 2.) it was locked. Recently I noticed I could see tons of light inside through the dirty window so I popped over to check it out. The light was from where the ceiling caved in...and it was just really a shithole inside anyways which looked like it would be a hell of a time to crawl over and perhaps not really worth the effort, aside from obvious dangers.
So my question to you is how far are you willing to go in general gross conditions, dangerous conditions, wetness, etc in the name of exploration? Some examples that come to mind that I have experianced are such things as general rubble/junk/human shit, caved in ceilings/collapsed floors, weird inch deep mushy floors with fog?! (cant explain it more than that)etc

I'd walk in piles of shit, in rain and snow just for that perfect building/photo, in shorts too

| | | Let's just say sometimes I can still taste what I explored 2 days later. As long as it's still standing, I'll explore it.

| | | I have explored and gotten dirty in the following instances: 1. in jeans and a light jacket when the outside temp. was below 10 and snowing 2. shimmied down an asbestos pipe covered in rat shit just to see where it went 3. have had my feet fall through a roof, and felt floors give under me (sucks being a 220, 6'3" explorer) 4. slipped in an abandoned indoor pool with an inch of slim on the bottom of it There are others but these were some of the worse ones, basically if I can get someone to go with me I will go. The only reason I don't like going by myself is for safety reasons.

| | | I've gone in rain, snow, sleet, hail, blistering heat, frigid cold, and so on and so forth. I went one time when it was raining so bad, the underground tunnels were flooded to below my knees, and every ceiling in the place was dripping on me. I've been in buildings where it was snowing INSIDE. Places where there are gross, mushy ceiling tiles all on the floor, in some places as deep as 3-5 inches. Stairwells so thickly covered in dead pigeons, their shit, and their feathers, that it was almost impossible to walk without hearing a nice little *crunch*. Hell, i even found small room on the roof of a building full of beheaded pigeons, with their heads nowhere to be found. I've seen things on floors that one could only hope to be that of chocolate, but everyone knew it wasn't. Rusty pipes, asbestos-laden buildings, mushy and even missing roofs, collapsed floors, sloping floors, twisted wreckage. I've done a lot. It takes a lot more than some splinters and rust to keep me from exploring.

| | | Once you've worked as a garbage man being dirty is the least of your worries. Trust me on that one. As for getting hurt, I've sliced my hand up really bad when I was trying to prevent a glass door from falling on one of my fellow explorers.

| | | I've been covered in dirt, spiderwebs, cobwebs, asbestos, mud, grease, snow, rain, dust, animal feces, burrs, ash and other things. I don't plan on stopping exploring because of a bit of dirt, it's height that'll stop me.

| | | There are at least two types of dirty, 1. Dry dirty, (dust old animal droppings, asbestos, soot, etc.) and 2. Wet dirty, (mud, slime, fetid water, oil, etc.) I’m a lot more ok with dry then wet. [last edit 9/18/2006 2:38 AM by CaptOrbit - edited 1 times]

| | | Injuries? I usually get a cut or a scrape somehow when exploring. Hell, i broke my foot exploring, and went out exploring 3 days later and had to run from cops because some damn kids at that location were causing a ruckus. Running on a broken foot sucks enough. Then, to top it all off, i put that foot in a 2ft. deep hole in the ground(it was dark, i couldn't see) and fell flat on my face, thus having a hurting face and foot. Fucking kids.

Dirtiness - No big deal. My other hobby is caving, which is a LOT dirtier than UE. I'm with CaptOrbit though, I prefer dry dirty to wet dirty. Wetness - As long as the water is less than nut-deep, I'm OK. Past that, and I'll be in a raft. Dangerous conditions - Being a steam tunnel explorer, heat is a big deal. I can comfortable handle up to around 150 F, but that's kinda the point where I start thinking about an exit. I've been tunnels a bit hotter than that... hot enough to make you start worrying about survival.

| | | Yeah, after going through mud streams and tiny corkscrew passages at the bottom of a cave, it kind of changes your perception of dirty. Of course, that's not sewage. Let's just say that I try to avoid being immersed in sewage. And having done lots of construction work, spending days where I have had to hose off the mud, paint, sheetrock dust, drying cement, and asbestos, or virtually have to take a bath in mineral spirits to remove the flooring adhesive that covered me, I don't think I will ever be bothered by dirt, cobwebs, or grime. Dry dirty feels good and productive. Wet, slimy, feces dirty is less preferable.

| | | Let me put it this way. I have clothes set aside for exploring because I know I'll never get certain stains/smells out of them. Sewage, rust, mud, cobwebs, snotsicles...it's all the same. After certain missions, I'll be brushing sand out of my hair for a week.
