I'm new the the forum, just found it, but ive been doing UE on the north island ever since me and my friends found an abandon house and barn when we were 12. ive been almost everywhere to UE on the north island that there is. One of the best places on the island i think is York Island. The island was an outpost during the Second World War, where soldiers watched for any signs of a pending invasion by the Japanese. it was to watch for japanese submarines coming down the inside passage of vancouver island. its up accross from sayward about 45 minutes north of campbell river and 10 minutes by boat. The island is full of tunnels and gun turrets, old cement buildings and staircases through the overgrown forest, underground munitions dumps. its a very cool place.

Another place to check out on the north island is a place called "drakes castle" its actuly and old cement sawmill from the 1930s out behind courtenay, underground rooms and such, kinda neat.

CFB HOLBERG another place to check out, an abandon airforce base from WW2 on the north island, bunkers and bunk houses, radar domes, abandon hangers and airstrips. another place to check out. sometimes there are canadian forces personel arround the place. but usualy only two days a week, other than that there is no one arround.

lots of old farm houses and abandon farms up on the north island too.

im going to be in vic sometime soon someone should take me on a tour of these so called "tunnels" ive got gear if needed.

when i go out UE'ing i usualy take along, bolt cutters, a spare lock, battery power dremmel with a diamond cutting disk, multi tool and pry bar. with that combo you can usualy get in and out of any situation

i will upload some pics of york island when i get a chance if anyone is interested in seeing them

Thanks for the info, would be great to see some York Island photos, or your other sites, when you have the time.

My sister is Charlotte Light and Dark. Who am I?

look familiar?

I had a different understanding of Drac's castle, but I just don't have that much knowledge of the island. Can you identify this place for me? I think it's west of Comox a bit.

Sweet, I want to see all these things. I found the location of Yorke Island and CFS Holberg with the help of google. They both seem pretty far away from Victoria. Is it easy to rent a boat in Sayward to go across to Yorke Island?

yeah, i took a small guide boat to the island when i worked for painters lodge, lots of neat stuff, as for the pic of the cement building, we call it drakes castle. there are a few hermatages and a cult in the area, the cult apparently uses it for sacrifices, there is a basement that you can go into, stalagtites forming. there is an alter in the basment and pillers and on all the pillers are pentagrams painted in blood. the first time i went down there was a decaying animal on the alter i dont know what the deal is but yeah kinda neat. lots of bats too. the building used to be a sawmill, the town was called headquarters that surrounded the building but all the buildings were made of wood and burnt down. ive gone through with a metal detector and found old irons and spikes, coins, spoons, a copper cup thing, chains and a pick axe and the head of a hatchet. you can see where the building were by little piles of rocks that were under the corners of the houses. if you go into the back of where the yards usualy were you find garbage dumps with old tin cans and soda cans, oil cans, glass jars little blue and purple medicine bottle its kinda cool.

im into the treasure hunting aspect of UE and exploring in general. my grandfather told me of a rail bed near port alberni that twenty years ago he was walking along and found a pile of iron rails from the logging operations in the area, a stack about 15 feet high the rails were places side by side than another row on top and so on and so on to make a stack 15 feet. i went walking through last summer and sure enough there it was a massive pile of rail road rails. if i could find away to get them out of the bush im sure they would be worth a small fortune if sold to a scrap metal dealer.

another place is on the way to cherry creek. i was goldpanning with my father in a stream on the way to cherry creek and we walked down the creek and untill we got to an embankment, looked over the edge and this medow was full of cars from the 30's 40's and 50s like an old junkyard that was over grown. it was very cool im sure that some of the stuff from the cars like crome bits and decals and interior stuff would be worth money on ebay.

last summer i went kayaking arround nootka island and camped on a beach on the back side, my friend went into the bush to try and find some fresh water and found a cave. in the cave was a skeleton dressed in old rusty spanish armor. im almost thinking of going back and snatching it. but the entire disturbing with dead remains thing could be sketchy, i wouldent want the curse of some conqistador on my ass.
