| | | My only gripe is the fact that they're all shot from head-level. I would recommend getting down and dirty if you want to get better shots. It's too plain for me to see head-level shots. Art photography is about seeing things differently, even if it's something as simple as shooting from, say, knee-level or something like that. Trust me, it'll make the photos that much better.

| | | I like the last one. It makes me feel like the wheelchair is scared and is cowering up against the wall.

| | | okay...for the most part nice shots...I agree with the perspective that is they are shot head high.. I also think that they would benefit at least some of them from a wider angle to get more of a nuance. The wheelchairs for example..even though thay are the main subject their impact is diminished by the fact that some back round is included..it is like either do a shot of a wheelchair or include more of its enviroment but you can't have it both ways.
So to remedy that just take me the next time and we can work through those shots together....

So your saying they need either more or less background, but the amount I have is just about the wrong amount?

| | | roland, do you have a wide-angle lens...? i am trying to remember each room/area you shot in, and how far back you can get in each shot. some of these shots seems like you either needed to step back and get more of everything in the shot, or you needed a wider lens. remember to shoot a little extra on each shot as you can crop later. (though some people who are purists or extra anal enjoy the pride of taking the shot framed exactly as they plan to use it...) i shoot extra around it, and crop later. looks like #1 needs cropped and tilted. i like that hallway/foyer area at that place. never noticed how many papers were on the ground right (though i did notice the papers on the table right next to it...eww) and i like how that ended up looking. so i have two potentials for this shot. one way you could have shot it would have been to get a more interesting angle towards the door frame. i get very low in my shots (actually sit on the ground and look up at everything like a little kid) and i find that suits my tastes. but there are other angle potentials. next time you go, maybe try this shot again. if you're shooting digital, you can shoot many different tripod angles and it won't cost you a penny. try low, try middle low, try straight on to the doorframe, try getting to the left or right of it. scoot around, and move your tripod higher and lower. another idea is to force the eye towards the clutter on the ground and down into the hallway. getting low would help this. and using your fstop to create some depth of field changes would be interesting as well. i have lately been taking shot with high fstops, getting low to the ground and including a lot of foreground, on shots where the tiles are haphazardly uprooting. i think you could do a shot like that for #1 if you get the chance to go there again. here is an example:
so, for your shot, i am thinking you could back further away from the door frame, scoot a little to the left, and get low. raise your fstop pretty high. then shoot so the eye drags across the papers on the ground and then gets dragged into the hallway a bit. i have other ideas for the wheelchair shots, but this post is long enough already. cheers!

| | | I should mention that I'm shooting with a point and so a lot of settings and lenses are beyond what I'm working with. The running thread seems to be I should try more unusual and original angles, thats definitely within my means, thanks everyone who took the time to offer suggestions.
