Steel and iron bars.
< on 9/12/2006 8:35 PM >

Okay I'm trying to get into a weather tower like thing but the only thing protecting the inside from me is these iron bars and bars that seem like hollow steel. I either have to go through two skinny iron bar doors or set of those steel bars that are already bent towards their middle. The steel bars feel hollow and the weakest. Does that wet towel trick really work for bendng stuff or is there a tool that I can use specifically for this? All I have is this distant pic.

Bending the bars is legally and philosophically out of the question. It turns into B&E then. Although no one here can stop you, it is not the best idea.

as a point of trivia, hollow steel bars were used in jails and prisons since at least the 40s to prevent cutting through them with a hacksaw

inside those hollow bars was a rod that turned freely and once you sawed through the side of bar the saw had no cutting power against the rotating rod inside

I thought that was pretty slick engineering even though it probably doesnt apply in your particular case

Unless Kryptonite scares you, and you have an 'S' on your chest, there is no way to bend those bars. You should really post in the rookie forum, maybe a mod could move it there, since that's where this belongs anyway. 2nd post and he's asking how to break stuff to get into someplace lame. I could show you how to make a bomb out of a shoe lace, a toilet paper tube, some duct tape and a stick of dynamite. That would get you in for sure. What ever happened to the idea of making these guys read for a month before being able to post?

I have your answers but you may not have them.... breaking shit to get in is NOT a good idea.... in fact it's a rather stupid idea.

Now why would you give advice like that to someone asking such a dumb question? I'm not sure who's worse, him for asking in a public forum, or you for answering in that forum. Dose your PM machine not work? Maybe it's unplugged. On another note, if you have to ask how to do something dumb like that, it's a good idea for you not to. Might get hurt or arrested. There is a way to do everything and a bit of research goes alot farther than just blurting out the first stupid thought you may have. You learn more with your ears than your mouth. Now if you still really want to get in there get a D9. Anything smaller just won't do. I just hope the cops don't confuse you guys for real explorers.

First off welcome to the boards.

Just some food for thought here.
If one of those bars break while your forcing them you will have made a very loud noise wile committing a felony in a very open area.

If you want to get on top of that water tower the best is to be observant.
Keep track of when a crew may have done work in the area. You obviously can't watch the place 24 hours a day, but if you spot tracks in the grass going up to the entrance that's a good sign. At some point someone will leave the lock open, and in the mean time you may find another way in.

you can be one of the "well people" by making the most of your stay at glenn dale

If that site is in any way active I would advise not doing anything so foolish. Hell, I wouldn't advise it all. You need to get experience before attempting anything like an active water/weather tower. I'm not going to flame you, but you seriously need to take this in steps and build up your skill. Yes, urbexing does take SKILL. Just don't mess with this site for a while.

If it's active I'd say avoid it completely. Not worth the trouble you could get into, plus the obvious ethical problems with this.

Perhaps a picture of the barrier in question will help. Hinges can be popped, bolts can be unfastened, locks can be picked or bumped. All these are ways to go through a locked door without causing any damage. Not that I want to bring up ethics here, but bending the bars and squeezing through is ridiculous on so many levels.

I agree. A picture of the barrier would be a big help, but even though I have only been serious about UE'ing for a short time, I still know that breaking your way in is a bad idea. If you can figure out how to get in without breaking anything, that would be the best course of action. Get a bunch of pictures of other possible entry points(as difficult or odd as they may seem), and detailed pics of that cage you were talking about. Perhaps I could help figure something out.

Do you know what a D9 is? That right there shows just how sarcastic it was meant because of how stupid and unlikely it would be to roll a dozer on it. It's like dropping a daisey cutter on that mound of fire ants that's been pissing you off all summer long.....I'll spell it out, public forum, some things are better kept to PM or researched. If you can't find a way in yourself, there is the knitting forum.

The Anarchist's Cookbook is a period piece. It's outdated, and gives anarchists a bad name.

Are people worried about the public image of anarchy now? 'Cause that's just odd.

On topic though, I wouldn't bust my way in, but I'm curious what "wet towel trick" you heard of. Whatever it is, it's news to me.

It seemed like a good idea at the time...
