I don't have it yet, but I'm going to get one real soon, a Emdom "recon waist bag" ("no, it's not a fanny pack, it's a recon waist bag, it's much cooler than a fanny pack").

In the meantime, I just use my pockets and some homemade belt pouches.

I usually don't bring anything but a flashlight and respirator on light/recon operations, but when I am going for longer or taking photographs I have a SLR bag that I carry in a north face backpack. It's a pain in the ass cause whenever I want to get anything out of it I have to take the SLR bag out of the backpack, so I'm gonna fork over some green for a real photography backpack sometime soon.

@ gloves
I'm sorry but I'd rather carry my shit in a plastic bag than wear one of those.

Yeah, I'm not too thrilled with the fact that it's a "fanny pack", but whatever, it's multicam, and that stuff works great.

I have the Emdom and the TAG. The TAG is more comfy, because of the wider belt.

Please don't be stupid. It might piss me off so much that I have a seizure or something. I hate stupid people.

Yeah, the wider the belt, the more comfy.

i bought a swat vest in china thats black fully adjustable and fully covered in velcro and snaps. all pockets/pouches are adjustable and you can take of or replace the bold POLICE sign. you can also just put hook velcro on your flashlight, camera, multitool, or whatever so it would be readily available.

i have, or have had several dropleg rigs and vests. the best one for armed work was a tactical tailor plate carrier. i have a blackhawk eod vest that will carry everything you want for ue ing and doesnt look like an interceptor or iba or something. i hav an acquaintance on ar15.com who tried out the harness and pouch set and he said the same thing re the bulky nature and lack of concealibility.

i usually like to keep everything i carry pocketable and compact. i often wear a very light jacket with extra pockets and i have a couple of pocket organisers like this one on sale at;

http://www.lapolicegear.com/dipoor.html

it's on closeout for about 5 bucks. i have one and it's a pretty good unit, particularly for the money. it hase molle webbing on the back too.
they have a "tactical" light kit as well that i was considering trying, but i'm not so sure it's not just "tacticool" and not really useful. i really like to keep my gear light compact and low profile.

just habit i guess.

something else, when working with job related gear in the past i've noted that when using any sort of covert harness that yu can't ever layer your gear more than one layer from your body. if you add more than one layer of gear any place on your body [other than your chest, arguably] than it's too clumsy and will get in your way in any activity conducted in any space smaller than a garage. keeping your gear trim and close to the body and secure is vital. if you can't stand normally without stooping, or altering your stance or gait you may as well be wearing a full ruck.

Jesus H I think this thread was dead and someone bring it back.

Did you get the wrap around for the TT? I dig mine, but haven't ever taken it out exploring ever. Then again if a cop saw me in that I think they would call swat.

Ohh yeah most people here don't wear anything military, they think you look to much like a evil bad man who is going to stomp babies with your boots. Just warning you someone will probably give you flak.

like i said, i mostly use that stuff for more appropriate functions. i guess being in my line of work make me always think inconspicuous sort of instinctively. so i go more for pocketable items like the pocket organizer if i use anything.

if you follow that link and look at some of the other stuff you'll see a 5.11 vest. it's marked down to about 16 bucks iirc, so i got one because their stuff is really nice quality bit pricey. the vest is nice but is is in a desert camo pattern. it's not too bad but i don't wear it much because all the fake mil wannabees have made me a bit self conscious about that stuff. being ex mil myself just makes me feel odd about some of that stuff nowadays. not sure why.

still a really nice garment, just wish they had it in green or blue or something [on sale that is , the do offer them in colors but i didn't want to pay full price.]

eoghan

p.s., the vest is a great item. it has about thirty pockets and even has 2 large concealed pockets with velcro panels for attaching concealed holsters or pouches for other gear like radios etc. check it out, it's alot more low profile than the pouch harness thing. prolly want to avoid the camo colors though.

ttp://www.lapolice...com/5tadicave.html

all they have is large and small in the closeout, but the vest and shirts/pants are a prety good deal anyway. you can fit your whole lunch [multicourse, including a folding table and a maitre 'd in those things]

I use an army bergen and a belt kit with pouches for a camera, binoculars, a canteen, a respirator, rubber chemical gloves, and a radio. The bergen usually has an extra canteen or two, food, a maglite, batteries, and othe things like that.

I'm still a newbie and all but what I've used for my exploration/scoping out of location was a regular old knapsack. I'm thinking that was still a little conspicuous, perhaps I should pack less and just use my messenger bag instead...?

well it depends on where you are. I can get away with all this crap that I carry because I can go without even being seen (half of that is just being so damn sneaky), but if you are in an urban area than it's much more difficult and you just have to be creative.

To the guy who claims to need only beer while exploring... I don't drink, but I've got a great little backpack that's basically an insulated, waterproof sack meant as a cooler. I might be joining a barbecue in an abandonment before long, so I may bring it full of pork steaks or something
