| | | Posted by Olaf Yeah and made for a fucking gorilla, I'm 5'5" and 130lbs with a 27" waist, you try finding some of those things that would fit without 4x too much extra material. That and those are vests, this is an under the arm shoulder harness, two totally different things.
|
I'd hardly consider myself a gorilla at 5'5" and 160lbs....but u just haven't looked hard enough. The XS size shit on ebay is like $2-3 for a belt. Being skinny, u have far more options, u just need a small belt or chest harness.

my backpack is super nice, just a little big. i want a system that will allow me to place the tripod down the center of my back and a small case for my camera. maybe a pouch or two.
|
Mine is a nice laptop bag, all black no extra bullshit straps, but sometimes I dont want to put it down because of environmental nastiness. It is very comfortable, and worth the $90 I spent on it.

| | | Air 33- I am in contact with Civilian Labs and currently talking with them about expanding their product line and helping them with design features. These bags are larger than they look too as you will see once I take pictures when they arrive. The reason for me using the shoulder harness carry configuration is not because I expect to be loaded for bear and toting 30+lbs of weight in them but because this mode makes the bags disappear beneath a light jacket. At the moment Civilian Labs is the only company that makes a shoulder carry system (am talking with Maxpedition about this). I have tried vests and they either 1. NEVER fit me 2. never fit me or 3. do not have the features I want, oh and they are vests. All the extra straps ie. chest strap, back strap and belt clips can be removed or tucked into the rig in their own pockets if you do not want to use them. Ahh I have the same problem with shit fitting me. My torso is too short I think, and I think most of these products are designed for men who do have longer torsos. I like the modular aspect so i can have a large belt and say a small back/harness. That's pretty neat if the straps come off, which make them far more versatile. Please post pixs whenever u get them. | | | civilian Labs stuff has gotten poor reviews by the military guys due to its fragility compared to other products on the market. Maxpedition website has some info about durable construction, and I am not sure how well civilian labs follows the durable construction ideas. That being said a few of you complained about how things were position. Although maxpedition isn't the only company I do like there products. As you can see Maxpedition makes good shit and I don't think Civilian Labs is going to be able to top Max. Although Maxpedition might be a bit out of the price range of the casual explorer. Another thing I like is NO ORANGE SHINY CRAP for those of you trying to be low key. They also come in several colors proteus versipack
Devil Dog Toadstool The Maxpedition™ ToadStool™ (#0406) answers the call for a tactical camera bag, equipped with storm collar and a water-resistant lid. Padded with closed cell foam on all sides to protect contents, particularly delicate photographic equipment. This new versipack has nylon attachment points on both sides for adding other Maxpedition accessory pouches. The ToadStool can itself be used as a pocket attaching onto Maxpedition or PALS webbing with a pair of Long Malice Clips

| | | I’m with nomeus. I’d like to see something for a DSLR and tripod. I’m currently using a rather large Northface backpack that I can fit everything in. But it gets to be a pain in the ass digging through. I’m kind of feelin the belt holster though. It seems like it would be good for cell, Leatherman, AA Maglite and a wallet. Has anyone checked out the gallery? Two of the pictures struck me as somewhat UE-ish. Like this guy:

Stick your wallet in a drybag, they are $5 at MEC

No, you see, I need something that wouldn't be so tedious as to make me not use it. I've often jumped fully clothed from docks and moving boats (or into fountains or ponds) in the past, so I really want something I could use daily. And it has to hold up too.
It seemed like a good idea at the time... |

| | | Like I said in the first post I am eliminating (translation = cutting shit off) all the tags, logos and zipper extenders as soon as I get them tomorrow. Yeah the photo is kinda UE but the "model" doesn't know what the shit he is doing so it comes off looking retarded. I spoke with Maxpedition again today and they said they will consider a shoulder harness bag line (maybe). I think there is a market for this type of system and there is no one better to make them than Max, they just need to hear that there is a demand for such bags before they commit.

Yeah it can be a pain but compared to other gadget bags, it is the best option sometimes. I commute on train a lot so it's easy to have with me on a daily basis if I want and still have room for a MP3 player and book.
|
Yeah sometimes I think about buying a backpack because it would be more comfortable to carry stuff. But like I said, I need access so i can switch cameras often. so that wouldn't work too well.

Used one for a while you can get them off cheaper then dirt for about 20ish bucks. I stopped using it for better things, but they work ok. I just didn't like the floppy feeling when I was running as I go into semi active places.

If you have everything bag wise figured out I'd suggest a OP/Tech tripod strap. I got a heavy 190CLB and it fits sunggly next to my body. Its $35, but really it keeps the weight off you and it fits and distributes the weight nicely. It doesnt fly off you when your running either, if that's an issue.
