| | | Posted by Mickael Another form of life you could encounter while draining: The police officier.
Often seen close to drain entrances when the guy across the street from the said drain entrance decide that you don't belong there, the Police Officier will usualy not venture inside a drain. Altough they don't bite or sting, they may try to arrest and/or fine you.

Kabbalah is an undramatic tradition that requires great patience and stability. One of the reasons for this tempo is that everyone has to mature his potential gradually and thoroughly at his natural pace. In this way his life's work unfolds at the right moment in his own and the cosmos's time. Z.B.S. Halevi -- Kabbalah |

C.H.U.D.
Short for "Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller," a C.H.U.D. is precisely what the name suggests. Once thought to be simply a race of underground dwelling Humans, they were later discovered to be anything but. Very little is known about C.H.U.D's at this time, but they are known to be extremely vicious and strong. C.H.U.D's are most often found lurking in sewers and drains, though they are known to venture above ground. Any C.H.U.D. you see should be considered extremely dangerous and avoided at all costs, as bites and attacks are rarely treatable.

| | | Cheers for the information, Kowalski, Free Baller. Reassuring to know that I don't have much to fear from Toronto drains. Although Mr. Recluse Spider is quite a customer. He's got really weird proportions for a guy who's not that big.

| | | Posted by Krawnik Wicked thread, but two questions: 1. How big is a brown recluse spider? 2. What kind of spiders live in Canadian drains? (specifically Torontonian) If you couldn't tell, I want to get into draining, but I fucking hate spiders. I can deal with them in abandonments (I usually ignore them or kill them), but in a wet drain wih no lights and no room and nowhere to run like a girl, I wouldn't want to deal with them. Cheers, and again, killer thread.

I recommend fire, and lots of it! (Quote from Simpsons) However this brings up an important question. I read in the "horror stories" thread that someone found a whole wall of Black Widow spiders in a drain. Now my first thought would be to hold a lighter to that wall but what would be some of the dangers of that action?
Lookin' for places to go! |

| | | Best thing to do when you see a spider? Ignore it and keep walking. I've had widows and recluses crawling on me before, if they don't feel threatened, they won't bite. Plus, some of those nasty images of Recluse bites are DAYS after the bite. You get bit, you go to the doctor/hospital. With all native North American spiders, it will take at least hours for the effects of the bite to really kick in. Its not like in the movies, where you die in like 5 minutes. If your really scared, and can't handle spiders, bring a fly swatter. Don't use a lighter in a tunnel that may contain methane gas and other flammable things.
