i use those paper respirators which are 5 for $3

are these sufficient for urban exploring?

what type of respirators does everyone else use and how much do they cost? is it worth it to buy them?

1. that isn't even a respirator. it's exactly what you said it is: a piece of paper.

2. no it won't do anything for you except keep dust out of your nose

3. USE THE SEARCH BUTTON. the GIANT TEXT reading "THREAD SUMMARY AND TUTORIALS- READ THIS BEFORE POSTING' explains everything you need to know, had you not ignored it.

5 points.

20-40 bucks about

If you're exploring dusty places, that's fine, if you're exploring INTERESTING places, get yourself a p100.

I use a 3M 6000 series with pink P100 pancake style filters. It's definitely worth it. I feel like I might not have been around asbestos often enough to justify them for asbestos avoidance, but its definitely worth it for not having to breath in dust from the ground that's been contaminated by rodent piss.

They're $20-30 USD from a welding gas/safety gear supplier called Airgas. I believe Airgas Canada carry respirators at their retail locations as well.

Nonsense. Pull the strap under your chin, place the mask on the crown of your head, and you have a fantastic new hat.

Definitely a hat.

Get what everyone else suggested. If you're going to be uncomfortable while exploring, may as well at least be kept safe while uncomfortable.

Get down, girl, go 'head, get down.

I couldn't find a post on this specific mask so I figured I'd ask here. Everyone I've read buys 3M respirators, I was wondering if anyone has used AOSafety respirators and if there was any specific reason I shouldn't. I checked all my local hardware stores, all they had was this brand so I bought one.

If it's meant to protect your respiratory system, it's a respirator.

AOSafety is just fine, as long as the cartridge is P100 and/or asbestos rated. The 3M 6000 series is favorable for me, because the pancake filter weighs next to nothing. Cartridge filters are quite heavy. You live in my area right? There is an Airgas store on 9th Ave and they carry the 3M.

Have fun coughing up asbestos lumps, then.

It doesn't matter what brand you buy, as long as its rated for what you're doing. Personally, I have a North 5500 half-face mask.

if you have trouble breathing or if the air tastes odd change it.

you might just want to change them anyway if you have a hunch that they need it. better safe than sorry

If the filter doesn't have markings "P100" get new ones. If it does and you can breath through fine, you're good to go

Respirators? No. You need to check them. Google search "respirator fit test", and I'm sure you will find it.

Filters? No, there are different types of filters for different brands.
