I'm no rookie at UE. I have been doin it since 1979. I'm sure most of ya'll were not even born then. It started with Reindeer Manor in Red Oak, Texas. This was a very large brick home, with a red slate roof, several large barns-one even had an airplane in it. The story went there was a brutal murder/suicide. The place scared the poopy doo's out of me and I only went inside once. Red Oak was a small town back then full of abandoned buildings, train trestles, houses, and such

Then in 1981 we moved to Rockett, Texas. Even more old stuff, with the added bonus of, a grain elevator, an old chuch many old homes-the kind where you walk in and it looked like they walked out the door. 3 abandoned cemetaries. And the strange one, back in the late 1960's there was a rock/folk festavil there. There were several buildings standing, plus a very large stage made of cinder block.

I visted sites in Arkansas, and Louisiana also.

Now I live in the very small town of Rising Star, Texas. This is a UE dream. Downtown was built during the 1890-1940 time frame. Over 3/4 of downtown is abandond, and falling in. On every street you will find an abandoned house. Then the part I love, the old train tracks, and trolley tracks, yes, we had a trolley in west Texas. I also have a thing for abandoned, and lost amusement parks.

So if there is anyone out this way in or around Eastland, and Brown Counties, haller at me.

Later ya'll.

Don't point your finger, unless your hand is clean.

Hello everybody! I'm G.O.S.T and I am the feared and dreaded "noob" (woman screams)

I have very little experience but have been through a few farm houses and a couple drains. I'm originally a photographer and came across urban exploration partly out of boredom and partly out of trying to find a new subject matter for my photography.

Hey everyone. I'm new here, but not new to UE, I've been doing it since I was a kid. My parents own a cabin in the woods of New Hampshire and down the road was an abandoned cabin. I went in and everything was still in there, a box of LP's (Beatles, Monkeys, etc.) from the 60' and 70's. The only thing missing was the mattress from the bed, which was outside.

After asking around, I found out that the guy who used to live there froze to death when his woodstove ran out and he was passed out drunk. The body wasn't discovered until the next spring. Everything waw untouched, the calendar on the wall was from 1977 (this was around 1983 or so).

I spent hours looking through things in there, personal papers, photo albums, dressers, everything. I was and still am hooked on the hobby. I love looking at someone else's life.

Today I have over 3000 images from my adventures.

Hi,

New member here, but I've always been interested in abandoned or no-longer-in-existence structures, particularly ballparks, stadiums, malls, businesses, etc. Traveled the old Route 66 in 2008 and was intrigued by all the abandoned businesses along the way, and wondered what they were like in their heyday.

Hey i finally got my posting privileges! So my name is rusty meathook and most of my adventures include my fiance KarmaKitten who also has a profile here. I have only recently started to seriously pursue urban exploration though i have had an interest in urban decay and abandonment for as long as i can remember. I used to work for a large security company in a supervisory capacity so i have already seen many of the gems of central and southwestern ontario from the other side (base edgar, guelph correctional, wellington correctional). I am based out of kitchener now so i have been doing stuff in the area and wouldn't mind meeting up with folks for explorations here and elsewhere. I have recently done some of the abandoned houses which seem to pepper the area, some stuff near grand valley, as well as the Robson Lang Leathers Bldg. and the Barra Castle. I'll be posting photos from these soon. So, yeah. Looking forward to some exciting exploring!

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to introduce myself and say hello. I am from the Chicago land area and have enjoyed UE for most of my life. I guess some of us are just born with the need to explore in our blood! I am just realizing that this fascination with exploring abandoned buildings is not so weird......lot of people are doing this. I have always thought that it was just some crazy thing that I like to do. Glad that I found this site and can share some of my adventures and read about other people’s adventures.

I am going to have to start taking a camera with me. I will need to just get in the habit of grabbing my camera on the way out the door. I don't often bring a camera with me as I will stop and explore an abandoned building whenever I see one, but now that I have a place to share my adventures it will make it more fun to shoot some pics as I explore!

I am looking forward to getting to know some fellow explorers in my area.

Later!

I keep my old point & shoot in my glove box 24/7. I'm always finding new stuff, and that really comes in handy.

May I recommend: if you don't want to keep your P&S in the car, then buy a disposable camera and keep that with you (do they still have these?) Although most P&S cameras these days are really cheap.

Oh... Welcome!!

Finally, the seven postless days are over!
After waiting for seen whole days, I can finally post and begin my life as a UEer! There are so many questions I have, and I can't wait to start exploring. If there's anyone near Chesterfield, VA that needs someone to explore with, let me know!

Hi,

I'm a new member and have been exploring since 1999. Was unaware of the formal definition of UE till way later. The amount of time I've spent doing this has resulted in a lot of pictures, stories, art gallery shows and articles. I hope to share some pictures hear about other peoples experiences. Results of my many explorations in Toronto and Detroit are at www.silentbuildings.com

Hi, I'm Mindloop.

I've always had a itching since I was a wee one to go into places that I'm really not supposed to. An undying curiosity with the closed off and forgotten, with the doors that say "authorised personnel only" and what not. Driving in the car with my father as a child, my eyes would be glued to the boarded up houses and complexes along King and Main st, all of the side roads throughout the city, wondering what is inside and why the people left the building that way. Well, now that I'm older I can really experience these things. The thrill of infiltration and the excitement and awe associated with an explore is something that I've experienced little of, but I really loved it.

Growing up in Hamilton has really made me appreciate and love industry. The general population tends to see it as an ugly nuisance, spewing garbage into the air. I find it all stunning and beautiful. I love driving down Burlington St and glaring at Dofasco, Stelco and the many assorted refineries and factories. Hamiltonians will completely understand what I'm talking about

I'm a photographer, so I tend to try and bring my camera everywhere with me (The best pictures always come up when you don't have a camera >=|). When I first started with my camera, I was a bit limited in what I could shoot. Aged 16 at the time, I had no form of transportation to go where I wanted to. Taking the bus down town was not particularly an option for me, considering I was quite intimidated by all the places I really wanted to go. I still am to this day. I do drive and the freedom to go wherever has given me the ability to scratch that itch.

My last true explore was 1-2 months ago. Me and a friend went down to this fencing factory (I can disclose location if anyone is interested). Very easily accesable. The place was 200,000 sqft, I really felt dwarfed by the sheer size. Many things left behind, cabinets of metal samples and assorted chemicals. The second floor had staff washrooms and the lockers (SO MANY LOCKERS, no pr0n though). It was a fantastic explore, the roof yielded a great view of Hamilton. I sadly had no tripod, so no pictures were taken that night. The factory is not abandoned, the place was put up for lease - not sure on its status right now. We did end up getting busted by the police right after, but this was in attempt to get into a second right beside this factory. We hopped a fence and climbed an easy ladder to the roof. Too bad we didn't look around for the old man security guard who called us in. Thankfully we got off with a warning - the bonus was watching the cops trying to get down the ladder we had climbed up.

Anyways, I'm hoping to meet up with some other explorers - to teach me some things and show me some places, as I'm still quite a rookie. I kind-of forgot I had made this account, but now I remembered and I can post! Hooray.

p.s I didn't proof read. Oh well

Ha ha, finally I've recovered my email from some nasty hackers...time to make my introduction. Simply put I'm a new to UER, but have some experience in it. I'm Huntington, WV area and wish to hook up with others in the area for some non-solo trekking.

My last explore was the area known as TNT up in Pt. Pleasant WV (which is to does who don't know) A munitions storage area for our beloved US military. So if there are any in the Huntington, WV area please contact me as its a lonely world out here.

Other things...I'm handy with a camera, sneaking around, and getting out of sticky situations.

Well intense rapid industrialization, social turmoil and upheaval in local/global markets are required for such a scale of devastation. I've heard that California may have ghost towns and abandoned mines from the gold prospecting days. Many of the archives shown on my site are gone or partially demolished.

Hello Everyone! My name is Cara and Ive been very interested in urban exploration for about a year now. I recently purchased my first dslr so my desire to explore has grown exponentially lately. Unfortunately many of the people I went with before are no longer interested in doing it for whatever reason. I currently live in Waltham, Ma but I'm always up for exploring places in other states. I would really like to check out some places in New york or New Jersey. In the past Ive explored mostly abandoned mental hospitals and a few factories. I don't personally know to many people who do this but I know you're out there I look forward to meeting new people, checking out new places and improving my photography skills.
