| | | The small building at the far right of the lower set of photos (Cody photos) is the last remaining station of the K & S Railway, the narrow gauge railway which ran from Kaslo to Sandon (with a siding to Cody for a brief period). The engine and foundations are the remains of the Noble Five Concentrator. The leaning building was a residence/boarding house. The Whitewater/Retallack buildings (bunkhouses) date from later activity in the area (1930s or 40s). What a beautiful area - wish I was up there right now.....

| | | advice? give yourself as much time as possible. i stumbled across a book called "ghost towns and drowned towns of southeast bc" (i think that was the name) it listed towns on hwy 31a i had never heard about. there is just soo much on that road, i think most has been recovered by nature. very beautiful place. sure beats the crap out of this feed the rich city i live in called calgary. i have wanted to move to bc for years, hopefully soon. iam a master roaster (coffee) i would love to set up a shop in bc. i will post some pics tonight of the highlight of our trip, Alamo siding.

| | | Right skaught! I've been in that old locomotive maintenance building in Nelson. neet stuff.
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

| | | Thanks Wheel! Sounds like a fun trip. I also have a book called Ghost Towns of British Columbia by Bruce Ramsey 1963. It's 224 pages and has info on about 100 towns. I lived in calgary for a couple years as well.

| | | i saw some strange railroad tracks in kaslo, they just went out into the lake? the trail to Alamo siding starts at the beginning of the road to sandon. it is about a 40 min walk down the galena trail. worth every step. you cannot comprehend the size of the ruins from the pics. once again time was short. you just have to go here to appreciate it.
i have a few more pics from moyie, st. eugenes mine. i will post soon.it was a long trip. left calgary friday around 3pm got back sunday midnight. about 1500km.

The last rail access to Kaslo was via rail barge and the CPR did not bother to lift the rails when service ended. I am assuming that the barge slip was constructed similarly to the ones that were used at Slocan City and Roseberry. Here is a link to a discussion (with pics) on another forum about those barge slips. After looking there the tracks into the water should make more sense. http://forums.rail...lay;num=1151781043 The pics are slow in loading
