I was looking for military shoulder bags and came across that Urban Explorer bag.
Just thought it was funny.

Actually that other link is the reason why I was looking for a military surplus bag. I converted one into a camera bag because I hate most made for camera, camera bags.

thats cool that the UE subculture is now influencing corporations. someone sitting in a boardroom somewhere must have said "hey guys lets devise a product aimed at urban explorers" and most of the people agreed.

I think it would have been more like:

I think there is an old thread on this already....

Just what I always wanted something to beat the fuck out of me as I run like a bat out of hell away from cops.

Its nice for the casual photographer, and someone who doesnt go over fences, but that would suck ass if it got caught on barbed wire.

Sorry if it's old news...

Honestly, how often does that happen? I mean really?
Besides wouldn't running away just make getting caught worse?

I have several times. I don't just go to derelict buildings that no one ever checks. I'd say 1 in 8ish of my trips usually went some where that I needed to move quickly if not go past a jog.

You wont get caught if you know what your doing and have a little luck. Plus anyone who does active sites will agree you need to be fleet of foot.

I've done active. Just not on days that they are active. I'd rather just not have to run from anyone. Being in a active site with no one in it can be rather creepy on its own.

I disagree. I do not want to be a target demographic. For me, the hobby itself combines fringes of being antisocial, the death of corporations and marvelling at how fucked up the world truly is. The very word is abandonment.

I doubt wether UE is influencing anything, hopefully least of all the I'd-sell-my-own-mother businessmen looking to plunder another colony. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that they have no idea we exist as a 'community' or sub-culture of sorts, and are just trying to appeal to the image whores who have to be seen with or in the newest of the new. "We're hip, we're urban, we're 'explorers'. Which way to my H2?". It's a gimick and it will fade, but we will always be lurking in the shadows and lost memories.

Running away is rather stupid, just makes you look even more guilty than you are. It's best not to even put yourself in a situation where you are noticed period.

the rest is just cliche. ;)

I never liked shoulder bags. I prefer backpacks personally.

If I have to carry a lot of gear then its something like this.

For short trips

For longer trips i.e. hiking or if a overnight stay is required.

But most of the time I can fit everything I carry into the pockets of my BDU jacket.

If you ever fall off the Sears Tower, just go real limp, because maybe you'll look like a dummy and people will try to catch you because, hey, free dummy

I don't think they went that far. Probably, hey how can we hit ____ nitch. Like the guy who gave the flashlight discount. Hey there are people who use flashlights routinely I'll give them a discount. He did the same thing on another forum I suggested. The other forum however has more interest in durable lights, then here.

I saw the exact same bag in a surplus store this afternoon and it was just called German messenger bag

The world urbanis kind of a hip word anyway. They probably don't even recognize the community. But it's a kitsch word and add something safarish and you got something there!

It's the same as when Nike introduced the "John Lennon 'imagine' brand of shoes", Pepsi was a large corporate sponsor of Palahniuk's "Fight Club" film adaptatoin, or Bob Dylan began filming Bank of Montreal commercials.

I had a dilemma. I have a backpack for my UE gear and a backpack for my camera gear. So it made it hard. I would constantly try to figure what I wanted more for each trip and figure out ways to UE gear in my camera backpack or put cameras in my pack for UE. So I decided to go with my UE pack and make a small camera bag out of a shoulder bag. if anything I can always squeeze that shoulder bag in my pack if need be.

It's rather stupid to just hang around and get caught when you have a security clearance and a South Carolina Law enforcement division card. Although most of you will get slap on wrist, a ticket could end my career in both spots.

Also sometimes running can avoid situations all together if your fast, know what your doing, and have some distance on a fat person.

I really don't want to get into semantics about flight no flight, but realize there are times its is perfectly advisable.

Also I hate boring.

Fair enough!

It's one of those tough calls.
Id rather deal with getting caught than going through the embarrassment of getting caught while running away. But I don't have a career to protect. Working as a freelance photographer no one gives a damn about my background unless I turn into a pedophile or something. But then again, potential terrorist get treated worse than sex offenders in this country!
