| | | My friends and I are less into the exploration of tunnels and abandoned areas, but prefer the thrill of evading security. Pretty much everywhere we go is staffed or manned by some sort of deterrent. Usually we sneak through schools in the after hours or large stores and the rooftops of the local shopping center. I was just wondering if I was the only one who did this and if anyone had any tips or suggestions for spots in near Ellicott City, Maryland (which is not where I live, but a good point of reference for proximity)

| | | It got boring. Buildings are becoming all the same around here. Back in January 2002 my high school partially burned down due to arson. Being in there at night gets you in shit if things like this happens...getting questioned sucks.

| | | Lots of people infiltrate active buildings. I do them every once and a while. One note about schools: it depends on where you live, but I know in NY its a felony trespass if you are caught inside a school.

| | | I was thinking this today, rooftops of active buildings are my favorite thing to do, and I mean tall buildings not malls.

| | | lately the only active areas I have been doing are rooftops and construction sites...I love construction sites. Its cool going in throughout the construction and then going in when its done. You get to really know the buildings.

| | | Yeah, personally my favourite sites to do are active, preferably tall downtown office towers and hotels. I find abandoned sites require more physical endurance, which is great for a workout (hell, just got back from the Brickworks), but I much prefer the mental agility required to traverse a live site. Dealing with the locals, being able to quickly map areas in your head, always being on the lookout for people using doors and elevators to see where keys or cards are neccesary, that sort of thing. I'm also fairly into drama and acting, so I love having to think on my feet and come up with realistic reasons for being in basements or being the only dood on the floor. Plus, when you're downtown (at least in Toronto), getting on a rooftop of a tower is exhilirating. Plus, in live sites you don't have to wear masks, carry bulky flashlights (I only ever bring a pocket sized guy with me in live sites), or bulky equipment (I never bring more than I can fit in my pockets, personally, but a briefcase might not hurt in the future), or worry about falling through rotten floorboards four floors to your death. So yeah, I love live sites too. Let's be friends!?

| | | I also like the rush of live sites, especially rooftops with good views. Just exploring large active buildings is fun, and if they were abandoned, it would be much harder to get around them, little light. Exploring active buildings after hours is pretty fun too.

| | | You might think it's a rush to be a "person of interest", but that's not on my things to do list. This isn't the 90's, and once you run into some the new technology out there you will be amazed. Bumbling around live sites causes unwanted attentions that can prove to be expensive, time-consuming, and very unpleasurable. -nothing personal MFer, but better you than me-

| | | often times, i like searching live sites in the hopes of finding hidden nooks and crannies that have been forgotten and abandoned within the site. this is very true of older buildings and hotels. on the other hand, it is extremely more important not to get caught doing something illegal. generally, trespassing isn't the issue in a live building since you may expect to find people anywhere. it's more a matter of explaining your purpose for being in the wrong place. "whoops, where is the bathroom again?" one rule of thumb i tend to adhere to in a live building is to always look like i have a purpose and know exactly what i am doing/ where i am going. this requires much more research than an abandonment. most hourly employees could care less, if they even notice you at all. even security guards in large hotels are so used to unrecognizable people that they tend to not bother you, as long as you don't look overwhelmingly suspicious. that means no gear, no camera and tripod, no exploring clothes, no automatic weapons, etc. the best is when a random person stops you to ask for directions and you can tell them exactly where to go, just before you duck into a service hallway headed towards the roof.

| | | I got bored with abandoned buildings a while back and nearly did every active site i could get my hands on. I enjoyed the challenge of finding weakness in high rise building security/ industrial plants etc. The big key is not to go head long in but take your time and learn and plan. I would say think like a cat burglar, without the burgel part. Although I must admit after my last couple I have lost interest as I have reached my boundaries of infiltration. Now I have a few sites around the US that truely interest me, but I will have to see if I can get on them.

| | | 90% of the stuff i do is an active site. Part of the fun in a way. Quite surprising sometimes as to how accessible some rooftops are. e.g. One of the Banks in our town centre is immensely easy to get onto, would of thought there would of been more security. It surprises you even more when your mates little sisters primary school has spiked fences and nightvision security cameras Covering the every access to the rooftop.

The pics pretty much make it, and no I have no clue where he liberated the safety harness/fall arrestor from.
