Aah! I remember reading that book, and about those tunnels!
I don't know why my mind blocked them...

Has anyone ever braved the Arhives to look for this stuff?

Shit if I get a few moment this week I want to go, I am living right near there for a few weeks.

Nah, I hate the archives staff. I've been in there a number of times over the past couple years. They employ two types of people there, in my experience. The first, they're just downright hateful. The second, the utterly useless.

Anyone here manage to get lost in the Dennis Building yet?

What kind of locked door?

I am trying to rack my brain, I remember being in a parking garage a while ago and seeing something like this.

It was either in the scotia square mall area, or under the Aliant building- I don't recall. but I remember going down and down and down to the lowest level, I didn't even think it could have gone down that far but it did. Down on a little area at the bottom which seemed to be for nothing since there were no spaces and room enough for maybe 3 cars there was a heavy door in a dark corner on a far wall and next to it was a really neat looking keypad, the type with flat keys that you type a number into.

We're not talking of the same thing are we?

You Said..... In the bottom floor of the Scotia Square parking garage (lower-mall level), in one of the stairwells, there's a wall boarded up (you could tell there was a hallway or set of doors behind it) with a single locked door in the middle of it for access to whatever is behind it.

Well I will have you know that in 1958 at the corner of Brunswick and Buckingham Streets (which supposedly disappeared with the development of Scotia Square) revealed a small underground passage leading into the basement of a building. There is a larger tunnell off this one that was constructed beneath Buckingham street it self which then leds to the harbour.

And in 1995, another tunnel was discovered at the foot of Sackville street this tunnell was connected to one on Prince Streets at the corner of Grafton and Market Streets, and these tunnels are connected to the two tunnels at George Street on the road just beneath the town clock, that tunnel is connected to two tunnels discovered on Duke Street.

The tunnel on George street runs right under the parade square in front of St. Paul's Church.

All of these tunnels have a solid wood floor, with stone arched roofs and slate walls, that give a crypt-like appearance.

The tunnel that is on Sackville Street connects to Georges Island and the one at the top of George Street connects to The Citadel.

Therefore you just got your answer, On the door you found in one of the stairwells on the lower levels of the parking garage at Scotia Square. Yes it does go to a tunnel, and yes the tunnel does go from Citadel Hill to Georges Island.

Are you 100% sure on this? When they built Scotia Square, that entire area was LEVELED. This doorway is surrounded by mall and parking garage, they would have completely demolished everything here just to pour the foundations. Not to mention there's a basement level under this floor (the receiving docks that face Barrington Street are under the mall and parking garage).
I couldn't see there being any ancient tunnels still under Scotia Square. However, I still think there's something cool behind that door. There has to be. It looks a lot like at one time it may have been a publicly accessible doorway.

Actually, if anybody here knows Scotia Square at all, you know the doors on the second mall level that lead out to Market Street? There's that large concrete courtyard area with the chained off area (chained off because the concrete is deteriorating). Well, this doorway would lead to whatever is underneath that concrete courtyard area.

I was talking to my father about these tunnels. He does some work on the downtown buildings heating system. He said there is tunnels for sure. But in his experience they been flooded. He said he ask around a bit to see if he can dig anything up.

I think there is very little question as to whether or not they exist. They do. 110%. There are pictures posted of the inside of the tunnel in this thread.

Accessing these tunnels, from what I've gathered, is next to impossible without, at the very least, some kind of clearance or permission. I have not heard or read anything about open access points anywhere and in my opinion, they're probably ALL sealed with the exception of tunnels leading to Halifax from George's Island with the George's Island access point remaining open, maybe.

Oh I never said they didn't exist, believe me I know they exist.
I was simply saying it's highly unlikely the ones under Scotia Square still exist, or the mystery door in the parkade allows access to any tunnels.

I'm a tad bit skeptical about any existing tunnels under Scotia Square. I agree that everything on the block has been leveled. Although I'm skeptical, it isn't totally impossible for some kind of passage does exist. I'll believe it when I see it. Until then, I really hope its there!

well, i know a way to get past the door, but it may involve destroying the lock...which i usually don't like doing. i prefer to go unnoticed

Yeah, isn't destruction of property typically frowned upon by the UE community?

I've never actually done this, but my friend did...I left just before he did it, 'cause I can't really afford to have a record.

Just to dredge up old posts, a friend confirmed for me that the Halifax Club has a door sealed in the basement that use to lead to a tunnel that was used for transfer of supplies.
