Tricks of the trade? help?
< on 5/17/2006 8:33 AM >
Posted on Forum: Infiltration Forums

Im a newbie, but I know its not proper ue etiquette to give out exact locations to people, but what is ok? Can you tell states? time zones? coordinates? roads? Im having no luck with one certain locations, fuller state/patuxent hospital and school for instance.

Also, i know all about using the satellite maps and registries and things of that sort, but am i missing out on something? Someone boasted in a forum that they could find any location just by closings and opening dates? How is this possible? through newspaper articles? wouldn't the name of the facility be necessary? Ill take any help i can get. thanks.

*shrug* I use cross roads all the time with people.. if they know the area and actually know what to look for they'll know what I am talkin bout.. But I don't tell'em to walk to the west door, knock three times, then pull the candlestick down to open the door...

Welcome aboard Zach, there are several people here who will flame you for a post like this, but I'm not one of them. I usually won't give away the location of a site to anyone who asks for it, especially the entry point. Two reasons.

26. Other people can stumble across this forum and post and read it and either lock it down or tag the shit out of the site.

87. I don't know you.

It's all about trust. So basically you have a good start there using maps, also look through tax records at the town/city hall anyone can go in and access them, along with various maps and other resources completely free. Also the library can help you with old newspapers to find out history and such of a site.

And once you found the site, scout it out first. Park yourself across from it, watch for security measures, look for entry points along the perimeter, and inside it. This also helps determine what the status of the site is, abandoned, closed, under demolition, or still active.

If you're still having problems, find other explorers in your area and meet up with them.

As for the dates thing...i know that (in IL at least) a quick googling will turn up a list of all hospitals in the state that are closed along with the dates of opening and closure: http://www.ihatoda...cts/closuresyr.htm

PM me if you have any more details, in the meantime i'll see what i can turn up on the place you listed.

Leo1: You cant just wander around Gary going into old buildings! Theres plenty of crackheads that will bust you in the mouth for that camera, then run a train your ladyfriends.
Me: I like Gary, I think its nice, aside from the lack of eats on a Sunday afternoon.
Leo2: Yeah, its really nice...until we find three dead strangers in an...abandoned...thing.

From your first post it seems like you know and have been to quit a few places. Some of those are cherries; good for more than a couple visits. This is your second post asking basically the same question on your first day on this site.
Sit back awhile and read what others are saying. I can't tell if you drive, if so go out scouting. Baltimore is a candy store for explorers. Share some pics with us. Members can be leary of FNGs; some are inexperienced (that's ok), some are criminal wannabes (not ok), some are trolls (death to the troll), and some are already hard core, grim reaper sneering, bad-ass explorers. Get some time under your belt, and try to contribute more to the site than you take.

I had my f-thrower primed, but a sweet kitty has got me feelin' mellow...for now.

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

I generally don't have a problem giving all the information I know about a site to the UE-DB, with the exception of the specific P.O.E. (point-of-entry)

I normally would be happy to take someone and show them the site, thus them learning my P.O.E. I don't normally give them electronically.

Just wait until you see a site you love go on the DB
then get looted to the point that all the cool stuff is no longer there
within a month-
and you'll change your tune

Happened to me twice. See any locations of mine on UER anymore? Fuck no.
The DB is a burden on the offline exploring world.
There. I said it.

so, more or less, it's up to your own discretion, but if you go around giving away poe and exact locations everyone will hate you? Ok, that cool with me.

*shrug* I think alot of it is how well you know someone.. someone seems kinda odd tell'em what city, they seem like thier good people but you just don't know'em give'em the crossroads, you know them and they have had an upstanding background give'em the address and tell'em when you noticed guards are around and any other info you think might help'em..

Basically I think the major point is you don't want to put exacts out in the frey so any moron raver can collect how to get into a place exactly and tear it apart..
