|  | | | Does anyone have any info of a very very large, grey, cinderblock type building that may be a sanitarium/asylum in the general area of west vancouver/surrey? I believe it may be obscured by a wall of pine trees. Anyone know if its empty/abandoned?

unfortunately, thats the description i was given when inquiring into imposing asylums in BC. And thats about all the info i have to go on too, an in-depth google search turned up nil.

Are you thinking of Woodlands?, or the famous/infamous Essondale?(check previous threads, and The Wraiths impressive site), I think Essondale was a Deco 40's style, not the cinderblock construction which mostly happened later.
Essondale is/was an impressive, quite eerie imposing structure east of New West as you head up the Valley. Was'nt it, (sniff)  ... torn down years ago? I used to live in Van, but am a bit dissoriented on the routes now days.
Quite frustrated, I called B.C. Tourism since I couldn't find Shit Mountain on my BCAA approved one month old road map, and am really concerned about this oversite!! They don't know shit about that mountain! Is Shit Mountain near Rebel's Toke?  ?

And for the record, it has become customary for the more "intelligent" strata of the teenage population of Revelstoke to refer to the town by various ingenious and derogatory terms. So rest assured, your BCAA map is still valid ;)
