Hospital Volunteer Work

Okay, so I landed some volunteer/community service stuff at a hospital. Now, the obvious question remains: How the hell do I UE this thing's brains out? Do I take it nice and slow, gentle but firmly like a tender lover? Or some drunken monkey ravaging UE? As fast and hard as I can go?

Opinions now! Suggestions on how to get around without asking questions, now! Advice on how to ease my co-volunteers into UE, now!

Heres a pic of the hospital in question:

Get a name badge and go for it. What are they going to do, withhold you paycheck?

Oh wait, you're not doing this as community service in lieu of jail time are you?

Kidding.

Have fun.

P.S. Start with the roof.

Slowly work your way into it. Make friends with a young guard or maintenance worker. Be cool about it. After a few weeks of chatting and hanging out he will become comfortable with you and then when your walking around and you pass mechanical area of roof door say hey whats in there. Trust me as a maintenance employee in healthcare I love showing off what is behind the secret doors when I have an excited visitor.

I have recently started working in a medical environment myself.

Wait till you have the hospital ID. Then just start roaming the halls, get used to the layout and where places of interest are. Then start going deeper. If questioned, just say you're new and trying to get get a feel for where everything is.

WTF indeed.

Do it slowly. If you rush into it you'll end up missing important information regarding alarms / dates and times people are working and such.

<SaraBellum> He's been super aggressive lately. He also peed on my bed and my mom's couch.

I like these suggestions. I'm going to befriend a guard and just wander my way around like I usually do.

That's the best way. Makes things a lot easier and s/he may show you some things that you would normally miss.

Good luck and happy splorin'!

Oh man, I wanted to explore the Hospital/Rehab clinic up the street from my old res for a while now- I never even considered applying for volunteer work. I might have to do that when I get back.

And yeah, like the others said, take it slow. If you're going to be volunteering over a series of weeks or months, you'll have plenty of time to see everything. And yeah, get on that roof. See if there's a helipad!

friggin' racists messing up my generalizations, also stealing my jobs, women.

RIP, Ninj.

Nah, the helipad is in the parking lot lol.

Yeah the roof has a series of ladders going from level to level. I'd so UE that!

Word of warning: don't be found in the drug supply rooms.

Also, you should be careful about going into offices. All of the files that are on hand are confidential and it is a serious offence to be found rummaging through them.

I'd stay away from the OR too, there really is no reason/excuse for you to be there and you might muck up the place. Hospitals are very enjoyable to poke around, but just try not to get in anyone's way and respect the patients.

Finally, I hope that the chance to explore is not the only reason that you are volunteering. Remember what you are there for, because that is first and foremost your duty.

Happy exploring.

I'll add to Asher's list: Stay away from OB, they have no sense of humor for potential kidnappers. Stay away from the Morgue too.

In general though hospitals are a good example of the type of place were no one will question you if you look like you know what you're doing.
