Legally, a dog handling officer can only release the dog if the criminal runs after the officer orders the criminal to stop.

So if someone shouts "HEY! You there, stop right now!", just do it.

Yeah, I think I would just give up at that point. Besides, you have to pull the prongs back out and rewind the wire, sounds like a waste of time to me. I'll stick to the ole maglite for crazed hobo defense. I'm just not to keen on harming animals, not even bugs. But as I said before, I'm not going to bash the guy for making a quick decision to defend himself, it's hard to think straight in a fight or flight situation. I just don't think the taser should have been in the equation in the first place.

in previous posts people speculated that guard dogs are trained not to take food from strangers... stop attacking when a person goes limp... in most UE situations its fairly unlikely that u will encounter a trained dog.

most likely it'll be a bad-ass junkyard mutt with everything in him from doberman to pit-bull, and itll have an attitude like nothing else,

Itll be ready to make th world in general pay dearly for its hard puppyhood, consisting mostly of being repetitively kicked in the balls over christmas by some malicious, sadistic brat, usually the child of the property owner..

in short, itll take your hand off, then behead you and feast off your carcass for the next week or more. (probably the best food its ever been fed for MONTHS)

how would one put to sleep a dog for a few hours (and not give it renal failure 2 days later preferably)

Something in a sausage perhaps but what? and how much?
(provided the sausage doesnt kill it first )

First I would like to point out the distinction between watch dogs and guard dogs. Watch dogs are cowardly dogs that might lunge at you, but won't bite and if you move on they will "watch" you and bark at you as you go through a building. Guard dogs will guard the building from you in any forceful means possible. Some places only have watch dogs while others have guard dogs. Having said that, when I hear dogs (even if I don't see them) the first thing I think of is leaving.

Out of interest has anyone brought a dog with them on a easy explore? I imagine having your own dog is helpful assuming you've trained him/her to find your car.

My dog isn't trained worth a shit, other than rolling over for treats, that's why she's on a leash in this pic (from the CSO Project thread, US section)...

We just happend to be out with the dogs and decided to wander down to this place and then of course I just had to see if the doors were open and of course go in. Really the dogs were a pain in the ass and I wouldn't do it again.

Edit: Hey, what happend to the picture!!!??

I've brought my dog along, my family's last dog would follow us into mine tunnels but was too big (lab/neufoundland mix) to get into a lot of places, so she would wait outside for us. Our new dog can get into almost anything, I left him at the bottom of a big decaying mine building while I climbed up the dodgy rotten stairs inside, and he found some sneaky back way that a little terrier could fit into and met me up at the top. I've also used the excuse of walking him to go through a vacant lot and scout a drain entrance. Maybe we need an "exploring pets" thread.

In an attempt to keep this on topic, I've never encountered an actual guard dog while exploring, but I don't go to many active sites that would be likely to have one. I've been barked at and chased (on my bike) by loose dogs in the area of exploration targets.

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

What would I do if a dog (guard, police, or otherwise) came after me? Draw steel and roll initiative. To hell if you think I'm going to just stand there and get maulled.

Don't get me wrong, I love animals, and would work to save a cat from death long before I think about doing the same for a bus load of school children, but I come first.

For me, it's all about a mix of canola oil, cayene, and a 1/4 tsp of capsium, this shit is sooo spicy, it masks anything, a waterbottle full is enough to mask at least a mile of tunnel or hallway

I've researched various dog poisons and drugs but am reluctant to list them here, as UE is about non-violent exploration and not infiltrating a military installation (anybody know of any Sapper type sites though? E-mail me.)
However, I keep a DAZER ultrasonic dog repeller in my glovebox. It emits a high ultrasonic tone (you have to put it up against your ear to hear it) that is very annoying to a dog. I tested it out and the first time I used it on a friends dog - ZOOM - it scampered out of the room so fast, I thought a Bakin Strips delivery truck just rolled over outside. The dog built up a tolerance to the device to a certain extent (I love this dog and play with it every time I visit but it jumps up onto me and I sometimes visit in nice clothing and want to keep the dog away) but it still does not hang around.
They cost about $30 bucks. I don't know if I would trust my life to one of these, especially in the path of a charging hungry pitbull or maneating junkyard dog but it is a nonviolent, invisible method of possibly keeping a dog away from you. It has a red l.e.d. indicator light to show that it is on and you should also do the against the ear trick to make sure that it is functioning.
From what I hear, the Tasers work very well against people but I would caution anyone about using a regular stun gun. I have been hit with a stun gun and it hurts (kinda like a bee sting), but it has to be held onto the person's / dog's body for a few seconds to take the full effect. A dog is going to be yanking you around and you tend to resort to your basic animal instinct of "HELP ME, OH SHIT, ARRGHH !!, BASH, HIT AND STOMP, LET ME GO"
Instead of pulling the dog in and holding it while you stun it.
I myself would spread the red, baby! Cover your trail in red pepper, maybe carry a pepper spray canister or Muzzle (dog pepper spray repellant) and run away while you spray.
I wonder what a dog would do if it encountered Lion or Tiger urine or scent - to bad you can't buy that. Anyone have any clue?
Lastly, Gardener's Supply Company WWW.gardeners.com
sells cat and dog repellant for keeping the peskey critters out of your marijuanna plants . . . er, your tomatoe plants. I don't have a clue if this would slow a dog or be effective in masking your scent but it's an idea. $15 for a bottle - formulated from essential oils and creates a pungent barrier.

Dear Orange
I'm a f*&king retard, can't seem to post a jpg or a gif or make it compressed (might need microsoft office or something), I already e-mailed a moderator for help.
but anyway, various catalogs sell them.
ultrasonic dog chaser for $16.98 from WWW.johnsonsmith.com
they send a free catalog called Things you never knew existed. works on a 9 volt.
only major problem I've encountered is my son's mom is an animal lover and she "rescued" a deaf pooch. She allowed me to try the ultra dog death ray on it and . . . nada.
Not a very common occurance, however.
They are handheld units, usually the size of a ice cream bar in light blue or grey boxes. I have seen car mounted ultrasonic repellers as well - maybe if your smuggling 40 pounds of hash or your lamborgini got mauled by jackals in a drive through safari last time, these might be useful. Don't know how a drug sniffing dog would act.
Anyway, if this catalog doesn't have a photo on it's web site, I'll go through my vast collection of military, police and B&E catalogs to find other companies that have them. Make sure to test it on the charging - chew your balls off - dog, from inside an automobile, as I have not done so.

P.S.: These would be great fun at a Upper Crusty dog show.

I just have to ask: Do you guys really think that it´s decent to hurt police / guard dog while UE?

I believe that under any circumstances, you should never hurt them. If you get attacked by police or guard dog, you most likely deserve it!

I disagree with that; feasibly, you could have guard dogs or police dogs come after you in any UE situation. Most of the time we are just lucky enough not to have it happen, but getting unlucky, getting spotted, and having somebody release the hounds on you could happen at any time. It's arbitrary to assume that you deserve something just because it's happening to you. I think that if you need to hurt an animal to avoid injury to yourself (not simply to escape) you should do so. No sense being scarred for life because some asshole beats and starves their dog to make it into a killing machine.

Okay, her I go with worthless info again... But, any action taken to hurt a police dog in ANY part of the United States IS assault on a police officer. Kill the dog and you go away for murder. They have badge numbers, training records, complaints filed against them and are subject to disciplinary actions just as any other officer of the law.

Think twice about messing with a police dog...

I am sure someone has mentioned this before but I didn't see it in this thread so I am gonna ask. Does anyone here carry a dog whistle with them to a site? I have found them highly effective in just finding out if there are dogs there when I get there. This helps me to avoid the whole situation of running into guard dogs. As for police dogs...well let's just say I hope one hell of a survival instinct kicks in if some of those ever show up.

The Infiltrators- these explorers are the wildmen, the hardy souls that won't take DO NOT ENTER or NO TRESPASSING for an answer. These guys are usually the ones that look at any building as a target. These are the guys that if asked if they could infiltrate the Pentagon, their eyes would glaze over and say, "Sure. Why not?"- Thanx Samurai

Well, nothing that my bajonet can't fix. If a dog attacks me then he becomes dogfood for sure. And getting a harsh conviction for killing a dog is just plain stupid. You can't fully rely on a dog, a dog can act unpredictable and should not be considered as being a officer of law. Lucky for me that suchs stupid laws do not exist here in Belgium.

A 1000 days of sorrow can disapear in a split second, it takes only one person to make it happen.
