| | | htp:/local.live.com/default.aspx?cp=YYY~XXX&lvl=LLL&style=AAA&v=2 Enter the Lat in YYY. Say 47.676549 Enter the Lon in XXX. Say -122.255333 Enter the zoom level in LLL. Between 1 (zoomed out) and 19 (Max Zoom) 17 is as close as most rural areas can be seen (old geology society B&Ws) Enter your preferred map type in AAA. a is an aerial image r is a road map sans images o is birds eye. Gives you this http://local.live....333&lvl=17&style=o
You can also get all fancy if you want. Start out with local.live.com/default.aspx?sp= add a push pin with aN.YYY_XXX_TITLE_MESSAGE_ If you have more than one, repeat the last line with ~ separating each. Spaces are %20 of course End with your zoom level and your image type &lvl=17&style=a It will center the view between all the pushpins and give you something like this. live.com/default.aspx?sp=aN.47.677247_-122.254828_Big%20Ass%20Truck_The%20truck%20that%20moved%20the% 20sand_~aN.47.676362_-122.254335_Damn%20Sand_This%20sand%20blocks%20your%20view%20of%20the%20water_&l vl=17&style=a http://local.live....er_&lvl=17&style=a
This is in microspeak but there none the less http://local.live.com/Help/URLAPI.html This will help if your GPS is set for DegMinSec http://www.fcc.gov...DMMSS-decimal.html This is freakishly useful as well http://jan.ucc.nau...m/latlongdist.html

| | | http://terraserver-usa.com with the Lon and Lat from a push pin marker will show you the same aerial image as live, but also give you the date the image was taken along the top.

| | | Thanks Junix, that is extremely helpful info. I loved your scratch pad :p I haven't had as much luck with Terraserver. I can't get the zoom that I get with Windows Live, even though you say they use the same images. Am I missing something? Has anyone tried Google Earth? It's fun to use, but you have to download software to your computer, and you don't get the same level of zoom [at least the times I've tried it].

I have not found maps around Seattle that were substantially different, they are both Microsoft products, but I have no idea. Live and teraserver have given me identical maps on several occasions. I have never seen a Google map on live or teraserver.

| | | This is a great thread thanks. As much as I dislike msn, I've been using virtualearth more and more lately(I'm actually preferring it over googearth) and this makes it even better.

What's the model # on your GPS Junix? I have a Magellan eXplorist 200 and it's one of the most useless tools. It takes forever to "3D position lock" and reception in the city surrounded by sky scrapers is mediocre at best and once its in the pocket, signal is usually gone. I'm not sure if this is just my GPS or something common to most portable units.

| | | This thread made me come up with a pretty cool idea. A UER utility website. It's a small website where people can go to do common UE tasks.. Like look up cords, ect. I put the first beta up here for the mapper: http://www.bizarrene.com/mapper/

| | | How do you get the "birds eye view" feature on? I had it on a couple times, but I wanted it for a different place.

Unfortunately "birds eye" doesn't work everywhere. I found this out by tracing a local creek to a bigger river and then losing "birds eye" at a specific point. They don't seem to have every region covered Less populated regions get the treatment last I think. If you can get the birds eye view it will be on the menu next to road or ariel, it disappears on it's own.
