i decided to do a little exploring before class one day.

i entered the church, and after ascending one flight of stairs, found this.

i promptly went right past the unlocked gate and up a creaky old flight of stairs. after which i found an empty loft and this:

well, when you put a locked hatch in front of me, of course i'm going to want to know what's behind it. so after bypassing the lock, i had gained entry to the secret hatch which was about 10 feet off the ground. i popped my head through, and found this:

quite a large room, though somewhat narrow, and from the looks of it, no one had been up here in 20 years. what makes me say that, you ask? well, last time someone was here, it looks like they were thirsty.

it looks like this room was once used for storage of something or other, like this door frame looking thing that must have taken a hell of an effort to get up here:

but at least they would have seen where they were going:

after my brief trip, i thought i'd better get to class. so i descended the old ladder and exited the church. there's another hatch on the side of the stairs leading up to the loft that i'll explore later tonight. till then, cheers.

Wow, I've been there at least a 100 times and never noticed that.

so i went back to investigate the hatch in the wall and found what appears to be an HVAC machinery space:

not too interesting, but cool nonetheless.

Neat. I've always liked attic-like spaces. 'Brings back memories of when I would explore the ( rather large ) attic in my parents old house.
Maybe I'll post those photos someday.

But again, cool, and especially the likelihood that it had been many years since anybody had last been up there - such a great feeling.

I think they used to have art shows in there back in the day. I swear I remember one of my buddies having some paintings up once.
