I just bought a nice pair of boots but they are really loud! I remember hearing Jester talking about making his boots alot more quite.

Hmmm, I don't recall knowing much about silencing footwear. I just use already silent footwear for exploring...

Yeah, cover the bottoms of the boots in cut up shag carpetting from the dumpster of a nearby carpet outlet. It makes boots REALLY QUIET...

Seriously, though, I can't think of a way to DEloudify your shoes. (I love made up words.) Learn to walk quieter or buy new shoes. Or take the ones you just got back, and get new ones.

I would have to suggest just learning how to walk quietly instead of worrying about your boots. There are many techniques described here.

If you want quieter boots - softer/harder soles could make a difference, and the treads on the bottom probobly change the loudness of your steps. I would guess that a completly flat bottum would be quietest, but also would have jack shit for traction. Check out footware thread here

It depends on what makes your boots "loud". I have an old pair of combat boots that, despite years of wear, squeak, in that annonying leather-on-leather way, and have done so since day one. Nothing I do seems to help...

I have another pair of boots that are nice and quiet, except when I have to walk on metal... clank, clank, clank. Just the way the soles are, I guess.

A lot of "quiet" boots and shoes have awful traction; The two quietest pairs of shoes/boots I've owned were a pair of Doc's and a pair of Converse all-stars... both of which sucked vis-a-vis traction. Well, the Doc's were OK, except on snow, ice, or anything wet... and the Converses were pretty useless. Quiet, but useless...

There's a reason they're called "sneakers" Great footwear for nearly any occaision. I actually can't think of a trip I've been on where I truly NEEDED my steel toed/soled boots. I've worn them plenty of times when I had rusty jagged crap to climb over, but tough boots are almost invariably clunky boots. I think you can get the same protection with some sneakers, as long as you're a little more careful. I don't really bother with the boots nowadays 'cause they decrease my mobility, I still haven't hurt my feet.

here's one...find a pair of leather soled moccasains...yes, the indian kind...scouts didn't use them for nothing...okay...scouts probably had other footwear...but they're super silent and don't leave distinguishable tracks. i've got a pair. suit yourself.

...one drawback is that cement wears the leather away quickly...and for heaven's sake, don't wear white socks.

Another little trick is burlap. Grab it from walmart and tie it to your boots it also helps to prevent leaving tracks that can be used against you in acourt of law. Unless they catch you with burlap on your boots.

The Divided God mentioned this in 'walking silently'...practice walking this way:

touch the heel of your foot to the ground first...then roll the outside of your foot forward, feeling for objects that will make noise (if you find any, the correct reaction is to pick your foot up! not move slower) and finally pushing off softly with your toes taking the next step. practice this while walking and soon it'll be you normal gait...also, if you crouch and put you hands on your knees, you'll make less noise.

I apologize if someone has already mentioned this , but instead of combat boots, get yourself a pair of hi-tec magnums. Same boots as the police swat teams use. Most comfortable pair of boots I've ever owned. Available in steel toe, Gore, insulated, many variations. Very silent, yet tough. Don't get the low grade version, the leather is crap.

Altima makes a similar boot mainly for the military, but I was never impressed with the fit. Great boot , takes a polish nicely.
At one time Nike made a "tactical combat boot".
Bottom line, they're all tough, light, quiet and black, so you can wear them with anything and you won't look like a lumberjack

I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying.
