old elitch's theatre

Really cool old building. Built in 1891, this theatre was the stage for plenty of great actors including Grace Kelly, Lana Turner, Douglas Fairbanks and others. The theatre, the pavilion where the carousel was and an old electronic sign are the only things left standing from the old elitch's after it closed in 1994. Currently, there is a plan in place to renovate it, but it will require $7 million, so until that money is available, the building will sit abandoned, waiting.

There has got to be more to life than just being really, really, really, ridiculously good-looking.

Did you happen along any EP's imprez? All those Condos surrounding the place would make it a challenge.

Nice pics

Well, it's surrounded by a temporary fence which presents no real problem. There were a lot of doors on the place, though, both on ground level and a few which were connected by stairs to the outside. The second possibility is to enter from the adjoining building which appears to be a garage or scene shop of some kind. I'm going to go back sometime this week to take more pictures and look for a way in.

Good luck and have fun. You've kinda inspired me to lurk around a certain other Amusement Park this week. Pics coming soon because I've found my camera to be inferior at night.

I take it the same family is responsible for the Elitch amusement park in Downtown Denver (or did that get booted by the new Bronco's stadium?) Been awhile.

I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying.

The Elitch Park Downtown is across the Platte River from Invesco Puke Field at Mile High. It was sold out to Six Flags right after construction.
