Explorer Etiquette

OK so I'm relatively new to the group, but have been doing this for some time now...

Recently, while scouting for an entry point, I ran into someone who "appeared" to be doing the same...

After a few nervous, "what are you doing here" looks, I waved hoping to get the same response. Instead, I was flipped off!!!

Thinking I had run into security, I moved on only looking back to find him going into the entry point I had scouted moments before!

I have met AND joined people who share the same interest, this never happened before!

Has this happened to anyone else? The real crime here is, after some time, I returned to the entry point only to be stopped by police... I kept my cool and kept quiet as well.

We should come up with a universal sign or signal (yea, yea, but this IS the web, so much for exclusivity)

Any thoughts or comments

Well, if the guy was doing UE, that was certainly not a very welcoming thing to do. I've never personally had that happen, and I hope that no one here would do that. Pretty rude if you ask me.

I've had people walk away from me, worried that I was...? Caution is best, but flipping someone off isn't caution. It's just plain rude. If ya know them well they're just saying fucking hi!

Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in.

I've had stuff like this happen to me- I wasn't UEing or anything, but hey, some people are just jerks. My understanding though is that UEers are a generally friendly and agreeable bunch (high fives all round!) so they were probably not 'official' explorers. Maybe just thieves or kids looking for a place to get high or whatever.

I have had to tell some people off while on-site though. My first time exploring a nearby construction site with a couple of friends, near the top three of my buds went to the roof but one of my friends got scared so I escorted her back to the bottom. When the three who went to the roof came back down, they were carrying giant spools of wire as souvenirs. I had to kind of tell them off and I made them put them back. They weren't explorers, though, just some idiot friends I happened to be with when I got the urge to go into the site. I dunno, I guess the moral of the story is to select your exploring partners intentionally and in advance, and not to count on people who just happen to be around or who you meet on site.

friggin' racists messing up my generalizations, also stealing my jobs, women.

RIP, Ninj.

I know people that do drugs n' alcohol in steam tunnels. This bothers me a lot. Not only is it a really, really bad idea (these steam tunnels are notorious for having people being caught in them) that threatens to ruin it for everyone, I see exploring steam tunnels and all comparable explorations as an end in itself, not a means to an end. But I'm not in any position to stop them.

Anyway, these might be the kind of non-UEs you ara running into.

Edit: On second thought, its not even them doing drugs there that bothers me, but that its the sole reason they are down there.

My soles, my soles!
My soul, my soul!
Go there,
sweet soul;
Be kissed.
