| | | Anyone have anything to say about the Inova X5 or the Inova X1? I've been thinking about pickin up one of these.. I myself mostly use the 2AA maglites, not saying it's the best.. just what i have.. I would hands down rather have a surefire.. But just can't justify spending the cash on a flashlight that costs that much, at least right now..

Don't know if this has been posted yet...but I'd say its the best Flashlight. It doubles as a Sun, bicep workout, and hiking stick.

| | | good god I didn't relise the X1 had that narrow of a beam.. on the same note would anyone recommend any flashlights that uses AA or AAA I don't wanna deal with the CR123A batteries.. Other things I am looking for in it is a tailcap button (Like the X1 or X5 or surefires) also looking for something thats like at most $30-$40 and as far as LED lights I would prefer they can come in red (or at least be able to have a filter with ease)

| | | I have a Dorcy that has a 1W Luxeon LED and consumes AAA batteries three at a time. Good run time, excellent amount of light, concentrated beam but still wide enough to be useful. I think the package said it has a 100' effective range. I like the color temperature too. It's made out of aircraft aluminum just like the surefires and has a push-on push-off tailcap switch. I got it at WalMart for around $20. ~Grit.

| | | Saw this one at Home Depot the other day. http://www.homedep...duct.jsp?pn=167227 It's like $12.99 in canada, and $9.97 in the states. 5 white leds on the main lense, and 3 red led's on the back angle. Looked awesome, and such a good deal.

| | | Brent; I was intrigued with this one last year; it used to not have the tripod feature. It's cool because it takes all AA's which I uhh, have access to hundreds. But also unique because you can fill all the tubes or (can't remember the minimum) some of the tubes. Battery life is dependent on how many cells and at wich level you are running it at. Never picked one up; somehow "made in China " just turned me off. But that's another argument. The concept was interesting, especially for someone like me that wishes they made a "40 aa " light. The tripod feature might be handy.
I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying. |

Ha, my bro stole me the same light from Wally-World. Not a bad light, but little bulky. I like the throw pattern. It's bright and only slightly bluish. Good runtime.

| | | As far as Led lights go one LED or 5 makes very little difference. The standard bulb punches through darkness better, however LED light has a better close range and wide angle. For those people who are not interested in shoplifting a light (folks like me) the store that sells lights also throws them in their garbage. REI, Mountain Equipment Co-op, the average sporting (fishing, hunting, camping store also throws them out. Batteries too.

| | | Luxeon LED's have great throw. It has nothing to do with LED VS conventional bulb. It has to do with focussing the beam. Regular 10mm LED lights are usually not focussed, because it's difficult to focus more than one.

| | | I'm gonna go off ona bit of a tangent here and recommend something a bit different. While flashlights are good for an intense beam in a single direction, most (especially the incandescent type with big bulbs) won't last very long. My AA batteries typically run dry in about 3 hours with the bulb beginning to dim at 2 -- if I'm lucky. If you're not sure how long you're going to be in the dark you might end up in a fix (extra NIMH batteries=good idea but must replace in the dark). For a long-lasting light source I use those chemo-luminescent glow sticks you can get at WalMart. Two for $4 (Canadian) and they last about 10 hours. Just break and shake...you can even do it in the dark. One glow stick illuminates a range of about 2-3 feet so I usually set off a couple. You can also hang them (or drop them) at regular intervals to create a lighted path. Because they radiate, you can also hang them off your clothes (see next paragraph). Also, a headlamp is probably more useful than a flashlight in most situations where you're not sure of the environment. The more use you have of your hands the better. Finally, if you do carry a flashlight (I do anyways), make sure it's waterproof , floats, and can take a whack. This all comes from my personal abuse of equipment.

Yea, We carry a couple of these as the final 'oh shit' solution.. also on that note: http://www.glo-toob.com/ "Virtually Indestructible" sounds like a challenge.. Also the glo toobs have max brightness for 8-10 hours and they will run anywhere from 30-80hrs (Depending on the power level of the light)

| | | My final "oh shit" solution is.. fire! Not really but I usually carry a bottle cap with wax and bits of wood in it, with it's main intention to start camp fires if I'm in the woods.
