Do you guys recommend getting one of these? they seem extremely useful. But I'm not sure if it would be a great idea to get caught with one of those!

They are highly expensive for what they are. Usually big as fuck, and some are designed to be pretty destructive. Also they aren't worth spit on manhole covers.

They work great opening doors that have people passed out behind it though.

For those of us who don't know what a Haligan is:

Next time it might be helpful to post a picture or explanation of what you're talking about. I thought you were just really bad at spelling Halogen

Hah, thanks. What would be a good tool for opening manhole covers and jimmying open doors?

Bad speller with a spell-check? Hah.
It's on the UER encyclopedia.

If you're going to do a forced entry, just get a crow bar, they're a lot cheaper. Or better yet, carry a big screw driver. I remember back in the 90s in Miami there was a string of daytime home burglaries with forced front doors. When the burglar was caught, she was a small-framed female, and all she used was a big screwdriver to pry open the door at the deadbolt. A screwdriver might be considered a burglary tool if caught on you while trespassing or "prowling". A crowbar or Haligan Entry Tool definitely would be.

I dunno though. Personally I'd never jimmy a door. Makes a ton of noise, does hella damage, leaves major signs that someone was there, is the first thing a cop would look for if called while you're there, definitely constitutes "breaking and entering" which is a felony EVERYWHERE, opens the place up to vagrants and crackheads... Just bad news all around.

Hmmm, good points. I'm thinking of getting up onto the second floor of the building I'm thinking of and just trying to pry open a window board if possible.

As for manhole covers... A tire iron. Or better yet, a Rolling Wedge Bar... Sears has them for 20 dollars, and mine pops manholes like none other. It can open the ones with lifting holes, or the slotted type.

I'll second the crowbar as being a better idea... the entry tools pretty much are just used to blast doors open, you don't need that.. basically the same idea as using a 20lb sledge to drive a nail... just overkill

Heh, I like how they call it a tactical tool, which leads one to assume it may open the door tactfully, which is hardly the case.

i would assume it would open it tactically, as in ripping the door right out of the frame... I've used one before and they work quite well, but never try to put that door back on the frame... it ain't gona happen.

If you're caught with one of these mo-fos theres no talking your way out of it. You know and they know the reason why you are in posession of it.

Yep, pretty much the key thing here. You're moving from simple trespass to B&E if you are even caught on the premises with one. The same can be true of a screwdriver, but the screwdrivers is a shitload easier to explain away.

Plus, 90% of the time you will be able to find a way in that doesn't involve breaking anything.

anyone heard of the Stanley FatMax Xtreme Fubar?
the thing is made for construction site destruction-
it has
jaws that can rip out a 2x4 or 1x4,
striking face,
breaking edge,
nail remover, and
prybar, all in one 18 inch, 4 pound package.
sorry i don't have any pics or links, i couldn't find it online.
it's also supposedly 40 dollars.

This is the way the world ends.
