| | | "faceless" lock? < on 1/30/2006 2:50 AM >
| | | I know to all you lock people this is gonna sound dumb, but how exactly do I open this? I didnt have anything with me at the time. I tried sliding it with my finger and a pen to no avail. Does it somehow still need to be "picked" to get it to open? Duh me, forgot to add pic! [last edit 1/30/2006 2:51 AM by Walking Talking Poison - edited 1 times]

| | | Hey WTP, I think you're going to need some sort of hook to pull the latch. Or a higher rez pic.

| | | Somewhat hard to tell from the picture but from what I can tell it's a door with no door knob. It's quite easy (I've done it while drunk at my friend's house), just whip out a small pocket knife, stick it in the square hole in the middle and turn.

| | | Rotate the square part with a tool (screwdriver) the same way you would with a door knob.

Yeah, a screwdriver is the easiest way to open a door with no knob, of course other things will work as well. A knife blade I just would be careful if it's a cheap one, since the blade could snap.

| | | The center parts with the square plastic parts look like missing... meaby im wrong. If the little plastic square is still there... just stick something in and turn.

| | | eek, ok perhaps I cropped and pasted the wrong hole. There is one for a doorknob, but also one where a deadbolt (Im assuming) used to be. Here is a slightly better picture. I can try to mess with it and/or get a better pic in a few days.

C4 explosive, or a size 12 boot. I'm kidding. Size 11 would work too.
In any event, both should open with a twist. A good screwdriver should do it. That's vodka and orange juice, by the way. Sorry.. sorry.. I didn't sleep much last night and I'm loopy.

Its all good, Im always loopy! And I love a good screwdriver! Thanks for the tip though! I know a boot probably would have done it but #1 I didnt know if someone was sleeping up there, and #2, that woodwork was too pretty to do that!

I used a 3 dollar pocket knife I bought from a gas station, I've had it for a year and a half. Also that second hole looks to be the same thing as the other one, just different colour. Again, quite easy to get through a door with no door knob/lock.

| | | Sometimes the right sized car key can turn the center piece as well. Just the other day I used my buddies car key to do this very thing. The keys for older fords and stuff which tend to be a little longer and wider at the end work the best... just an on the fly solution incase you don't have a screwdriver. P.S. - When turning deadbolts with this method it takes a lot more torque than normal to turn it over.
