| | | The place I currently want to get into has some strage doors on the back of it. It seems this would be the only access point. They are double doors and somewhat angled inwards. If I push on them they move a bit but not much. There are no handles or anything at all on them. Just wondering if these are the old type doors that latch at the top or what? Any info would be appreciated. Sorry the pic isnt great, damn sun was glaring off of everything today!

| | | They look like they are built to swing outwards. Have you tried to slide something up under them, then hook it under to use that as a handle? It would work when I would get "locked" out of the grocery store I worked for.

| | | They look like "loading dock" doors that probably have some sort of locking bar on the inside.

| | | Just be careful. The point is to create a makeshift handle, not to break the door. Good luck!

| | | If your desperate, the hinges are on the outside, so you can always depin/unscrew them. Not ideal, but always a possibility. Close up when you leave, praps put a piece of cloth over the screws first so as not to leave telltale marks.

| | | The hinges definitely look like they swing outwards. I'm guessing like most double doors, one side has a vertical lock (locks into the top/bottom of frame), and the other just latches into that one. Maintenance people like to leave the one door unlatched because they can be difficult to latch. They don't seem to care that the door can just be pushed/pulled open when left like that. As a security guard, I'm constantly having to latch these doors after maintenance goes home. Celluloid is probably right, and all you have to do is pull it open. Sidler

| | | If they are latched, as noted before the hinges are on the outside.. Take the whole door off, just remember to put it back.

Those are loading bay doors meant for trucks to back to to unload/load cargo. The fact that you can push them in a bit indicates they're probably not well-secured or "loose-hinged", meaning the frame in the inside isn't wide/thick enough to stop the door from being pushed the wrong way. However, I doubt they're intended to be opened inwards, probably just bent that way. It also indicates that the locking mechanism being used is probably a simple cross-beam with handles rather than something sitting flush to the door surface (like a sliding bolt). You may be able to simply slide a metal ruler up through the middle and pull up the bar holding the door in place. A lot of these large doors also have bolts that go down/up into the cement at the base and top of the door. You can test for their presence simply by pushing at the top/bottom and seeing how much resistance you get (and if there's e metallic sound). A coat hanger with a loop can make quick work of such "locks". Make sure the place is truly abandoned before you enter, however. Sometimes swinging the doors open is enough to trip motion sensors (door sensors on wobbly doors are not common for obvious reasons).

Always just out of sight...
| | | Re: Odd Doors <Reply # 9 on 1/17/2006 5:49 PM >
| | | When I saw the thread I thought it said Odd Odors... kinda disappointed, I wondered what it was that smelled... Oh well. That door, from the pic, looks like one side (the right door) is wider than the left door. To me that would normally indicate that the edge strip on the right door, sticks over top of the left, covering the gap down the middle and protecting it from the *slide something between the doors* trick... But that's just what it looks like to me... [last edit 1/17/2006 5:50 PM by Jester - edited 1 times]

LOL, so sorry to disappoint ya! Thanks for all the suggestions. Im not quite sure about security alarms and such. I have enough problems with the police station being only a block away at the moment. Im trying to think of a good excuse in case I get caught fiddling with the door again =P EDIT:Actually I may have one other option on the side of the building. This door doesnt look completely secure...

Really? I think all you have to say is, "Oh, I'm sorry officer. I just like touching knobs." --uhm-- maybe not. Could lead to something even *more* unpleasant.

Actually, that looks a whole lot more secure. The door looks metal and is probably wedged in. You're likely to spend a lot of time kicking at that (if you can reach it).

Well I was thinking I could possibly slide something up where the doorframe used to be and pop the lock that way. Ill have to get a better look at it. And no, Im not mentioning "knobs" to any of these hilljack cops =P

You know..I regretted it as soon as I mentioned it. Also avoid "night stick", "cuffs" (unless you're into that, in which case call me ;) ), and "BADGE"..oh man, I can't even type that without blushing! I thought of editing my post, then I didn't, and THEN I got a little sleepy. Anyhow, good luck with getting into the building. Don't worry about cops...just keep your eyes/ears open. Stay friendly and leave if asked (offer to leave if caught).

| | | PFFFT, tried a few of the above suggestions, I did snag on something a bit of the way up, but theyre also tighter than I thought, or at least the overlap is. I yanked on whatever snagged, but these are also quite a bit taller than me, so either it wasnt an effective way in, or I wasnt high enough. And jB, you were right. I was hoping the brick was rotted away enough from the doorframe that was rotted and falling apart to slip something in, but the mortar is still solid and Id look a bit odd chipping away at it. Taking the doors off the hinges is a definite no go. Police station is too close and the other side of the building is some Fraternal order of....something. AKA grumpy nosy old men! Im thinking about just posting it on the DB or regional thread and letting a more experienced and savvy ue'r have a go at it! But thanks again for all the help guys, it is much appreciated!

| | | See that pipe next to the door in the first photo? It's easily climbed...try at night if it's too visible during daylight. EDIT: To clarify, walk your feet up along the wall on either side of the pipe and climb the pipe with your hands. Pushing against the building with your feet while pulling against the pipe with your hands should keep you in place pretty well. [last edit 1/23/2006 12:38 AM by InsertNameHere - edited 1 times]
