| | | That would be a "Suhr-vale-ence" camera. The catch you on videotape/harddisk. It probably won't track you as you walk unless its being driven, which means it has to be watched. Use common sense, assess security, and see if they seem like they would spend the $ to pay people to watch them. Usually its just recorded and reviewed when the place gets robbed. so.... Where is it?

| | | It looks like a small CCD camera inside a weatherproof/vandalproof enclosure. Since they have lots of them scattered around you can probably assume they're cheap and low res. They're also going to be wide angle which means unless you get close, facial recognition will likely be pretty tough. Like a previous post mentioned, if these cameras are newly installed, they probably all run to a server where images are captured to a hard drive. Now for the bad news. If this is a computer run surveillance system you can count on it having video motion sensing. Any significant and sudden change in the image will cause 1) an alert to go out and 2) the video to start recording beginning a few seconds before the motion occurred. No one needs to be watching all the cameras all the time. The alerts can go out to a monitor screen, email, pager, etc. It can even email screen caps. So while concealing your identity will likely be trivial, this system will be very effective at alerting people to your presence and activities. | | | that pic looks like a silent witness type cam. if you can get a better photo i could tell you more. if it is a silent witness it does not move, and it can be programmed for motion detection it does not need to be on a server or PC. the resoloution is extremly good on these cams. if you can get another photo try to get one showing the cam itself as in close up. if i can find my manuals i will scan and post some stuff but i have no idea where they are at the moment Wil

| | | The enclosure style is very common so it's really hard to tell exactly what kind of camera that is. It all depends on the TYPE of building it's on. For example on a school those are probably static, non motion sensing cameras. However the satellite uplink station I visited had those same "style" camera, ie the casing style, and those had motion sensors that were computer controlled but the entire system could also be manually overriden to zoom in on specific activity with disgusting accuracy. Only thing you have going for you is the size of this enclosure is pretty small. The likely hood of this being a super high quality camera is low as they usually have larger casings. However, these cameras are designed to catch people and serve as evidence in the occurence of theft. Don't buy that shit about they prolly won't be able to pick up your face. Also, the last silent witness model I saw looked more like a traditional camera with IR lights around the lens... though I'm sure they've got several different models...
EDIT: That enclosure's true intention is to cut glare from light to give a clear image. It also protects from the weather, but even inside cameras have the same casing. [last edit 1/11/2006 5:32 AM by TylerDurden - edited 1 times]

| | | *shrug* Notta clue. loots like any other camera to me.. but I basically treat all cameras like they are active, pointing at me or where I want to go and some guy is watching the screen like a hawk.. thats the only thing you can be certain of.. for all it matters there could be no camera and just the dome.. but how would you know unless you went up to it, in which yer on camera...

| | | You'd need some sort of laser changing in an oscillating pattern that can blind cameras and people, it constantly changes so their eyes/lenses cannot adjust. Such a device was trialed by SWAT but is actually illegal under US law, it is about the size of a torch but uses green lasers. You couldn't get one, its pointless trying so try and find a different way.

| | | If I were you, I'd be more worried about motion detectors on the camera alerting police/security to your presence. It would be rather impossible to explain yourself down from a school roof...people don't mess around with schools at all. ...but if all you're worried about is identification, not being discovered, then do this: wear dark, nondescript clothing, possibly something you wouldn't normally wear. Get a tshirt and do this: http://www.enterth.../shirt_ninja.shtml I'm almost embarassed to link to that site, but hey, if it works who cares, right? Instant tshirt balaclava that can be put on in seconds and torn off quickly in the event that you'd run into anybody. It's served me well in the past.

| | | #1-worry less about the camera, worry about the alarm system. A ski mask will save you from the cam, but one phone call to the cops from AlarmPro and you'll get to explain it to guys with blue lights and guns. #2-that other camera pic looks like the ones they put on some larger postal facilities. They are really quite good, and in the case of the USPS, monitored. #3-shirt ninja. BWA HA-HA-HA!

| | | What about the more forceful approach of smashing it, running away, and coming back when the fuss about who broke the camera cleared. A nice ski mask an a bat should do the trick Of course ethically however
