| | | Does anyone know anything about this: http://maps.google.com/maps?q=bedford,+ns&ll=44.742100,-63.681607&spn=0.021342,0.051207&t=h&hl=en This is just to the West of where the 101 and 102 meet. I'm talking specifically about the two patches of cleared land in the center of that image. I know there was some plan to build a prison there a few years back, and I suppose it must relate to that - but why two patches? The top one looks like it might have buildings on it. Has anyone been there? There's also an extensive set of cleared roads/paths going in all directions. Very extensive in fact. Why? Anyone know? Finally, I can see wide corridors of cut forest which extend for a long, long way in each direction - like all over Nova Scotia. Are these powerline corridors or something boringly sensible like that, or is there a more interesting story? Forgive my many questions and few answers, but I'm new to Halifax and Google Maps has been my main guide

| | | The larger clearing appears to have several lines of bare rock, this may be or have been (notice the new growth throughout the clearing) some sort of quarry. The smaller clearing to the NW appears to be an electrical substation. Long lines of cleared forest are generally electrical distribution corridors or natural gas pipelines.

| | | Theres a big Transformer station up there and towers. Also all those clear section are powerlines, good trails for the Snowmobile/Atv. The Pipe line is on the right side of the 102 further up it, Its hard to follow from google maps/earth.

| | | Yes. I completely agree with Kowalski. Powerlines, generation substation and all that jazz.
