Good advice Pickwick! I too am excited about the photographic aspects of UE, seeing how I just bought my very first digicam. (Kodak easyshare 4.0MP C330) It's a beginners camera, but hey, I'm a beginner!

And thanks for the luck I'll be needing it!

Yeah don't worry about the camera. I used a 2.1 mp HP Photosmart 635 for about 9 months before upgrading to a Canon A620. I took some pretty good pics with it too. It's annoying only being able to get 4 x 6's with it though. At least you won't have that problem

I don't plan on printing out my photos, I don't even have a port for that yet. I didn't think I'd need it, I was just going to store all my pictures on my comp... is that what you mean?

And yeah, I am pretty happy with my camera, I hope I can take as many great pictures that you say you have when you started out. One can only hope though

I haven't been in that tunnel in forever...do they open it on Canada Day when they have the trolley running over the top of the bridge? I've seen it a million times but never went up to see where they load the passengers...

I was wondering if anyone had any infomation about the Celenese plant. Part of it was ripped up and sent to Mexico, I belive a resperator would be necessary. Other than that there is a house that I want to look in. The city of Edmonton owns it, and I am wondering why that house. Is there something unique about it? It is kinda close to Totem outfiters on 99th Street and perhaps 80th ave.

Frugal Fin,

Do you know who does all those 'Listen' stencils/tags? If you do, ask that person about Celanese.

They store the trolley in the tunnel on the opposite end, I believe there is an old train station further down the tracks where people load on Canada day. This info is pretty old so things may have changed, I haven't been up there in years.

Well I didn't mean that I took a ton of great pics with my old camera all the time, just that I've had a number that are keepers. I keep most of my stuff on my comp too, I just like to print out the better ones.

I had some nice pictures, but I deleted them somehow on my camera before I had the chance to upload them onto my comp. But I am going to post what I did get in my journal, so feel free to check them out. I warn, they look like tourist shots. I didn't really get anything worth looking at.

They don't actually store the trolley cars in there (they now have 2), they get put away in the old garage at Old Strathcona. The trolley runs from May to September, and very occasionally after that as well, weather dependant. There are three (maybe 4) stops now that you can get on it at and you can even book it privately for your special event.

Whatever you do, don't be a dumbass and try and climb over the fence to get in, like some university kids proved earlier this year; there are much easier ways to do it that don't involve electrocution.

Rubbers!
This is something completely different!

I don't think i've heard anyone refer to them by anything other than 'gumboots'. That's just me though.

Hey cloak, where's your journal? Don't worry about the shots, I took a pile of bad ones when I was starting out. I have a couple hundred of an old cleaning plant that was recently demolished here (in Calgary) so I'm glad I have them now.

My journal is where all the other journals are... Am I not in the index?

And no, these shots are very bad. I have two that are related to the "exploration of the shack" but that's about it.

Meh' it just leaves A LOT of room for improvement

I don't see any new journal entry. The newest one I see is from dec 31. I'd like to see your pics!

Umm. Well. I haven't gone on any other explorations yet. Thus there are no new pictures... But yeah when I do go, and get some pictures, I will be sure to post them.

Edmonton is a tricky place. Well, I'd assume that anywhere is tricky for a newbie like myself. I figure I should just go out and look around. The people that I've spoken to told me that's what I should do, so I'm not going to rely on anyone else for that. Besides, it will build some confidence in myself as a explorer if I'm actually successful at my attempts. So yes. That's my plan.

Yeah the main thing is to keep trying. One thing I'd advise, especially if it's an active area is to scope it out before hand, then have a good once over when you actually plan to do it.

In saying this you also need to be ready for the unexpected. An easy and legitimate entrance may not be there tomorrow. Even for a preliminary scout, bring everything that you'd likely need if an entrance is available. I've failed at this before, and have been disappointed because of it. I can't stress this enough either: Don't procrastinate! I've done it plenty myself and have missed out on some very good experiences because of it.

Thank you for the advice. I agree, planning and not procrastinating is key. I plan to make a trip out next week. Thanks again, Pickwick.

Its been a while but my memory just kicked in tonight , while i was studying at the U of A like hmm clears throat... several years ago. i was amongst the first group of students who could use the LRT all the way from clareview to campus. Well anyways, Digging that tunnel was expensive and bringing the machine to dig it was also expensive, so.... they dug the tunnel straight through to 111th I believe but never opened the stations except for the university station. Which we all thought was dumb . They explained they didnt have the money to create stations but bringing this boring tunneling machine back would be really expensive so they dug the whole tunnel. So anyways, I just thought of this tonight so I checked on the LRT edmonton transit site and look at that. They just opened the next station along the line this january.. And if you look at the link i provide... you can see that there is an expansion station planned for 2008. the 76 avenue station and the south campus station. well ive got news folks. The tunnel for that station already exists, from what we were told 10 years ago. So, whoever has the determination and witt to figure it out should be able to explore a location PRE use. as opposed to the usual post use. the electrical and tracks arent scheduled for installation until 2008 from the edmonton municipal planning information. have fun and post pictures!!!

Oh my gosh. This is insane. The tunnel has already been dug? But... You mean the tunnel for the south division of Edmonton? That's... Well I remember going to the University Station a long time ago and seeing that the tunnel was... Okay wait. You are saying that the tunnels have been dug and remained there for over ten years? I guess I have never investigated it but I mean... That's absurd! So they just have to build the stations? I am most definitely wanting to check this out!

Where in the link you provided does it say that these tunnels were pre-dug? Or is that classified information?
