Correction. 'Mall of America.' It's just in Minnesota. And they do have police officers roaming the public areas after 5 oclock, but I think some of tha back areas might be easier.

FYI - I was working there durring the whole 9-11 time, and would reccomend being careful in those areas. That perticular mall has some interesting areas, and I've explored probably every inch back when I was in high school. After 9-11 the mall was a "possible terrorist target", being the largest sopping center in the US, and a symbol of capitolism. Naturally after 9-11 they installed alot of motion detectors, and there is actually an active police station in the basement (not just security, but real Bloomington PD).

anyway, here's the Mall of America to sum it up....

most of the mall is horseshit, boring tunnels, there is allarmed roof access but we did get on the roof on more than one occasion uncought. The basement was kinda fun, for a time there were no cameras down there, and the janitors would leave their little cart things with the keys in the ignition, that was pretty cool. We had a blast skateboarding through the basement tunnels, pulled by cushman carts, the tunnels are about 30 feet wide. The mall has an aquarium with sharks and shit, we found our way through to the top of the aquarium, looking down on the water, and at all the filtration systems. that was kinda neat. Camp snoopy (the indoor amusement park) has a theatre, which had an *unsophisicated* lock. my library card got me access, and they actually had a projector hooked up to a VCR, so we often found our way in there to watch movies. that was pretty cool. Also in the basement, there was an area full of chain-link cages where the stores would keep all of their display cases and extra product and stuff. it was fun digging through these cages when some were left unloked. Then there was the garbage processing area. A mall of that size produces alot of garbage, all of which is stored in the basement. When I first found this area, I got chatty with the employees, and they thought it was weired, but let me rummage through the dumpsters. That was a blast, and there were at least 30 non-food-court dumpsters to go through. I went back here to dumpster dive, at least once a week. On the 4th floor there is a theatre, I won't divulge too many details, but if you look hard enough, you can find access to free movies, through a door behind the screen.

If you do decide to go to that mall, I'de reccomend wearing slacks and a dress shirt. If they catch you tell them you work at radio shack (last I checked there were three at the mall), you just ended your shift and and are headed for your car. Since there are 3 radio shacks at the mall, it wont seem weired that you're in the halls of an area on the oppisite side of the mall as where you work, since there's one near whereever you are.

PS> spelling sucks, so does my grammar. This post is to long for me to go through, sorry.

Hey, thanks very much! I had no idea what the Mall of America had to offer, and had contemplated coming down just to see it. I still would, and this helps me out a little.

Alarmed roofs? Camera coverage in the basement? Motion detectors? Wow. Makes me appreciate what we have a little more.

The boring tunnels you describe are actually fairly interesting to me, so I'd have fun there.

Mall of America ...yada yada yada

Did you ever get around on the top floor? If I remember, there is a convention center up there on at least 25% of the mall, and the movie theatre on another 25%.

The movie theatre is very accessable from the corridors, and that might be worthwhile in the afterhours, but I believe there are cameras in the lobby of the theatre. In the daylight-hours, it is very possible to watch free movies. We never did find a way into the "minnesota room" which is - I believe - what you were referring to as "a convention center". Never even tried to get in there.

I really like the dumpster diving idea. Sounds like a dream place. Piles of dumpsters from over-priced wasteful companies all in one indoor location! It's the counter-culture part of the mall!

Think about active sites, do you see groups of 5+ people creeping around?

Posted by Jester
When I think team, I think of a group of people that can work together and trust one another to be there for each other. That's what my *team* is.

No, you don't... if they know what they're doing. I have routinely led groups of 5 into very secure places, and not once been caught.

But if the *team* is a bunch of people just wandering aimlessly, then you best not be taking them anywhere active/secure.

As I said, if a team is a group of people that can work together and trust one another to look out for one another, you can get into secured places with a *team*.

8 people into a secure site. The proof is in the putting, or is it pudding ? mmmm pudding...

Jester you are just a thrill seeker arent you? heh just kidding.

This huge Mall of America sounds like it'd be fun to just wander around and getting to know it but I can see some very "heroic" rent-a-cops tackling you in some sub-basement trying to save America from another terrorist attack.

Bringing exploration to Clarksville.
