Mall?

Let's just say, theoretically, that i wanted to get into a shopping mall with my team. Not realistically (probably), but an interesting idea to toy with.
Required might be a blackout, maybe from a bad winter storm or something, and possibly inside connections.
Sorry to sound like a jackass, but that would be awesome if was possible.
So, just post any and all ideas you have on the subject.
And, before you ask, there isn't a reason for me to want to know about this.

Thanks all,
love,

I think I'd just set up a lawn chair outside and watch you and your "team" make jackasses out of yourselves trying to get into a FUCKING MALL. Here's a tip...most malls have hours of approximately 10 am to 10 pm. During these times, you can get inside and see everything you would see otherwise and more since you know, stores will be open. Not only that, but you have entertaining old people all around if you go early in the morning. I guess if you really want to feel badass you could dress as a ninja when you did your "exploring".

You can walk into the back areas whenever you want. I did last time i went to the mall. If they ask just look lost or tell them ya gotta piss really really bad. oh where is the frikin bathroom?!!
If you want to go after hours and risk the cops then just hideout somewhere in a back area. Take a book/nap.

Wow, Brind, way to be an asshole.

He said with a black-out or something. Nobody is dumb enough to run aorund in a mall during normal off-hours.

I for one think that would be a fun idea to toy with. I've always wondered what kind of crazy machinery are in the backrooms.

When there is a black out they close the mall. The security guards stay. If they catch you, they will arrest you. Work in a mall for a while, and you will learn the workings of The Beast. Its not that exciting, and those hallways are just full of trash bags and teenagers talking on their cell phones while taking a 15 smoke break.

This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.

The other option would be to blast the skylights out with a small charge and then rappel in after tossing a few smoke grenades through.

Seriously though, there is almost nothing interesting behind the scenes in a mall. You can get to pretty much any spot that's interesting during normal hours. Is there a movie theater in your mall? Stick around after a late showing and you'll have the place to yourself. Just don't be expecting anything really interesting.

I was assured it had a 1 year warranty.

I'm sorry, but you're mistaken. My posts only come with a 6 month warranty. After that I can direct you to a local service center that will repair them for $30 and a Jello pudding cup.

...unless you're exploring one of the world's largest malls, then it's pretty interesting.

I've explored malls large and small, and really, security is never an issue.

One of the world's largest malls has no 24-hour security patrol beyond the concourse and its stores, very few cameras in the back areas, and no motion detectors that I'm aware of. Basically, security works on an honor system: a seccer or employee will only know you do not belong if you do not act like you do. I strike up conversation with store employees, janitors and maintenance people all the time.

Let me tell you a story:

It was a hot day in mid-August, and I was in an area of this mall that very few people are aware of. It's always hopping with workers unless you catch it just before the end of the work day. I was walking along and happened upon a guy pulling pallets down a ramp from a loading bay.

"Hey, need some help?"

"What? Oh, no, I'm good, thanks."

"No problem. Just on my way out for a smoke break, but you looked like you might need a hand."

"Nah, I do this every day."

"Really? Damn, it gets hot in here."

"It's been hotter. This is nothing."

"Man, I don't know if I'll ever get used to this."

"You will."

"Maybe. Well, clock is ticking. See you!"

Bam. Had I staggered around gawking at everything while trying to hide my face, he'd have known in 10 seconds I did not belong. My policy is always speak first. It's worked every time, especially in active sites, and especially in shopping malls.

Allright guys, quit with the flame war. Further off topic posts will be BALETED!

Mall dude: I think your best bet is to scope out the mall during normal business hours when you won't be taken for a gang of theives. As has been mentioned, malls have security, who would probably be on the lookout for looters in the event of a blackout. There are way better things to explore during blackouts which don't have security (just read Infiltration or do a search for that big East Coast blackout last year for some info).

You might also want to phrase questions a little differently, as noted in another forum, there are certain types of post which just seem to scream "I'm a clueless newbie, make fun of me!"

Turn off the internet and go play outside.

I work in a mall. We've completely lost power 5 times this year.
Everything goes dark, security makes an announcement for stores to close their gates and head outside. For the stores with electronic gates, the employees just grab a chair and play solitaire or something.

You'll find that mall security isn't generally that hard-core. Most of the security guards where I work are people I went to high school with, and they happen to be in the small percentage of my class who don't have a criminal record, and think$ 10/hour is the best they'll do.

The only really interesting part of a mall is the roof.
That's generally pretty fucking cool.

I was thinking more along the lines of Lyn Swan and me recreating the "immaculate reception" in the food court. Now that was a team. I think Bradshaw is busy with that TV thing.

Hey, thanks everyone, i realize i do really sound like a newbie, probably because i am, but i wasn't even seriously thinking about this- i just started daydreaming when i went to the mall today- thank you very much, vapor, freak, brind, andrea, keti, and everyone else, i sorta want to try the roof, now, it sounds pretty safe after the whole getting up there part. There may be something to the whole theater idea, too. This is a pretty small mall i'm talking about, and this is a pretty small town, too, so most of the cops/security i've met are pretty cool (see dancing cop story). Also, one of my team (can't say who)'s brother is a police officer, so i think i'll be able to get some insight as to the locations and times of their rounds (because there are some great spots right next to the station). So thanks again everyone, i'll post again if i actually plan on trying it, and i just might (WAY later). I'll try not to play the helpless newbie from now on.
Besides, if i had the steelers, i could just knock through a wall, look around, and knock through the other side.

Cool, not as interesting as I expected it to be but those are pretty cool. Did you take those yourself or did someone else post them? What mall is that?

There is an abandoned mall on my site. It's a pretty neat experience. Just so you know, an active mall and a team don't go well. Nothing active and a team does. Active sites, 2 people, 3 tops. But that's up to you really.

P.S. - That particular abandoned mall has people living in the basement... SKETCHY
