| | | Posted by atomx I was just wondering why the collar on the MARPAT uniforms are like that? Looks like the took it from the movies. Anyways, I like my CADPAT suits where we are, and I hear that we're finally designing an urban CADPAT for us. Good for me cause where I'd go would be on an airfield around buildings anyways.
|
The CADPAT (or ARPAT) has that half (mandarin) collar to prevent chafing when worn under OTV's (Outer Tactical Vests) currently issued to troops in combat areas (Iraq/Afghanistan) The OTV is the garment that holds your body armor plates (front/groin/back), with equipment attachment points on the outside of the plate carrier. Galls Public Safety Supply, Streichers Police Supply, and a number of other Military and adventure outfitting companies (IE Brigade quartermaster, US Cavalry) have issue and copycat CADPAT (ARPAT) and MARPAT uniform items as well as accessories in those colors--and spiffy looking urban ARPAT/MARPAT too!

| | | I camo my ghillie suit so I blend in anywhere. I was in the projects the other day, spent the night getting it ready. Small pieces of brick, concrete, syringes, empty crack vails, coke cans, cig butts, MD bottle or two, some 40's , dead rat, and just a dash of graffiti. HA! Dark blue or black seems good most times. Blue denim means your not a hunter, which can be useful sometimes to allay attention due to unwanted hunters in wooded areas. Is that a tripod, or a AR-15? -keep it simple stupid-

| | | I usually find that simple gray-brown-green clothing will do the trick in most cases. It's inconspicuous out on the street and blends fairly well in many situations both urban and otherwise. Of course, I also maintain that a hardhat does wonders for getting you into many places. Granted, I am not into 'high security / live' sites. In those situations, a more aggressive camo may be useful.

| | | Ninja Suits :p <Reply # 110 on 4/9/2006 4:28 PM >
| | | Do some of you guys actually wear ninja type suits when you go exploring? I'd think theres some advantages to doing so, but also some big disadvantages/dangers. Advantages:
- More stealthy
- If spotted person might think that their imagination has been running wild, and dismiss the sighting.
- Possibly protection from rust and gross stuff(?)
- It looks cool lol
Disadvantages:
- If spotted and confirmed, Authorities/Land owners with guns might think your some kind of terrorist or something and are more likely to shoot you out of fear
- It wont look too good if your caught (But ninjas never get caught, right?) *just stay away from white background heh
- Price (for the suit) I'd imagine.
- Gotta get changed before going out for a coffee after your exploring is done.

| | | In reality you would just look stupid. A ninja suit would be a lot easier to spot since abnormalities jump out at people. If you were spotted no one would dismiss it and follow/look closer out of curiosity. Basically this is from the same book as crouching down so no one can spot you, or moving around in a box so no one realizes whats happening.

Starting from the top It's not any more stealthy since most of stealth is movement, plus alot of people wear black when they think ninjas, which is bad camo.. If spotted the person will think yer a moron, if he thinks you are a harmless one or not is a different story 'Ninja suit' wouldn't give you any more protection then any other BDU or shirt or whatever Functionality is better then "looking cool" Now for the disadvantages Yes.. cops WILL think your a moron.. If you get caught you MUST commit Seppeku, as to not dishonor your family/clan at your failures Price I can't see being THAT much more then anything else Why would you change when all you hafta do is put some clothes over the suit.. that way you are always prepared to flip out and kill people

| | | Hahaha I'm serious I don't dress like a ninja anymore!
I only dress like that for airsoft! NOT ue! Of course those goggles are useful in some places that have funkay dust and general badness floating in the air.
And no, unless you're going to hop right out a car and sneak into some government military uber complex, ninja suits = useless. Because people who see you won't think "Oh, must be my imagination." They will more likely think "OMG TERRORIST! I need to go do my part as an American citizen! *phones cops*." [last edit 4/10/2006 12:53 AM by FoxTwoFoxTwo - edited 1 times]
