By the way a lot of contract guys are using cargo pants from Old Navy apparently. Those probably have lots of pockets.

I normally wear ripstop or winter weight cargo pants. Navy, and OD get the most use when out and about. Getting some nice poly thermals helps with any heat issues related to the pants being thin, and will help wick water away from your legs if your pants get wet (though the BDUs will stay wet for a while ) There have been times when vastly different outfits worked better.. like.. a suit and a breifcase (live infiltration of a underonstruction hotel). Just use something that works for your situation.

For sturdy material I have found BDUs to be quite good. They're hard to find to fit a 25" waist and 34" inseam but that probably isn't going to be a problem for you.

I thought i had problems finding medium-long, how tall are you?!

For anyone having a problem finding the right size BDUs http://botac.com/ has pretty good prices, and a good selection.. Personally I pretty much have stuck with Propper.. dunno if any other makers are any good.. and for anyone near LA you can just go to thier warehouse or storefront or whatever it is..

I happen to like cargos myself though I tend to rip 'em up pretty fast. Pockets come in handy. Next best thing is just plain denim or grey slacks. You can't beat the ubiquity and they just won't draw attention. Keep in mind why the clothes are important...protecting yourself. Nails, walls, crud...you need something that'll keep all that away from your skin. On that note, a sturdy jacket, gloves, and waterproof/resistant boots help a lot. Invest in something solid but be prepared to destroy it.

DO NOT BUY FROM BOTAC! Look up there customer service issues. They are one of the worst online stores, and have several online stores dedicated to how bad they are.

Wow, blue that was a terrible post.

Hey guys, dunno if you ever thought about some really dark blue Dickies?

They are like work pants, they look very classy so they can help with social engineering and they come in really dark navy blue and are very durable.

Check em out.

I always just go with these really dark blue Old navy jeans and a pair of thermals under them and it keeps me toasty. I would prefer a pair of durable cargos though for the pocket space, but arent most cargos kinda flimsy?

Sweet I would never have thought of old navy! Thanks guys. I've always just worn dark blue jeans, they hold up. I've had ripstop and yes, they don't stop. I wasn't happy when my whole backside was suddenly exposed to everyone, and I wasn't doing anything active even!
About the hat, try getting a balaklava. Mine is changeable into a hat and neck warmer as well, and it can be adjusted with ties for comfort.
On stores, I like uscav and BQ. Also look at cheaperthandirt.com sometimes you can find what you need but its kinda off and on as they are sometimes used and closed out equipment.
for strength in shoes, I use Hi Tec midnight hikers. They are very comfy, but not very quiet on hard surfaces.

Yeah, most cargos are pretty flimsy. Also, the pockets get caught on stuff. I guess you have to judge each situation as it comes and dress appropriately. Sometimes you just have to take your lumps.

Yeah, and my dad's a hunter, so if i was doing some exploration in a forest-type area, do you think camo might be a good idea?
(besides the fact that it would look reeeeaaaly suspicious)
Thanks again

Around here, most trendy clothing stores have camo on their racks (. I can wear camo pants anywhere here and not look out of place. Even camo pants and jacket don't get any weird looks...

If you want some clothes that are quiet, cheap, *AND* hard to spot @ night (but you look like a nob during the day) get yourself some old army "Olive Drab" BDU's. I like the canadian kind because the pockets have covered up buttons , (well the 3rd generation ones do anyway) and more sturdy than american ones. (I have a bias towards my own army kit type) just don't get anything in cadpat because it is easier to spot in an urban environment because it has light coloured areas to it.

Plus you can get any of this AUTHENTIC sort of thing with a reserve armed forces base in your city/township. The canadian reservists aren't allowed but when they quit some of them keep their old kit and sell it to the surplus joints. We get away with murder. lol.

I got a pair of dark blue Hamills (a copy of carharts) they are super durable, and perhaps sometimes I look like I should be there, and i have installed zippers on the hip pockets so I don't lose stuff. I like using leather welding gloves because they have the wrist "cape". I need to get quieter footwear. I have a pair of Canadian marching boots with a vibram sole. They are pretty loud but offer good grip, and ankle protection. They might even have a steel shank...
I carry a black back pack that has reflective tape secured with velcro, I need a good coat. Red is kinda a red flag I think. I have a wrist watch with a turtle on the other side ( a little LED that most people put on the bars of their bike for night visibility) This is my back up light. Olive drab is one of my favorite colors. I rarely wear black. But I do have an inner tube wrapped around my princeton tec impact ll and i am hoping to get a small nail bar today. it will be wrapped in inner tube as well. Inner tube makes it not so cold on the fingers as well as better grip, muffles the sound a bit if dropped, harder to see (also harder to find if put down) and if needed the rubber could be used as a turniquet if needed.

normally BDUs are like $30ish.. which isn't too bad for pants, plus they last pretty a long time (at least mine have), I even don't own a single pair of jeans anymore...
(glotoobs kick ass.. I need to get some)
