| | | The composition is a bit cluttered and distracting. The right side sort of cuts of everything. Nice attempt, but I really don't get any emotional response from it.

| | | Might post a larger photo. It took me awhile to realise the thing on the right was all the same pipe. Im liking the light and the contrast, but the angle is a bit uninteresting.

| | | I'm glad that it's black and white. I think that, because of the solid pattern of the bricks, it would be gratifying if you'd take a different angle on it or skewed the crop to the right to break it up and bring more attention to the pipes in the wall. I can see that the shadows are creative but I have to say that the light is a little too specular... maybe light paint a little to fill in the shadows? If you're using a low ISO you could pop a muffled flash. A slight brown tone might help you out too. I like how you framed right right side with that big pipe, but I don't like the shadow framing the top end. It's too parallel to the brick's shape that it's a distraction. If you painted it a little with a flashlight or took it from a lower camera angle it would help you show dimension! I like the even tones across the photo... it's very consistently grained, too. Film, I presume... or else it's contrast has been decreased.

| | | Canadian Tire.. your vapid one line "critiques" are starting to get a little annoying. If you're so bowled over by every.single.picture that's getting posted, you could, at the very least, say what you like about it. Two words and an emoticon only go so far, y'know? As for this photo, I think it just needs to be taken in a little to get rid of the distracting elements and to put more emphasis on the important shapes. Maybe something more like this:

| | | Mm... i agree with Micro, but along with that maybe aligning the pipe with the verticle axis... it distracts me somewhat, but that's just me, and yes,i agree about the composition also

| | | I like the shot, although that's probably because I've taken pretty much the same one, on a square colour slide. Micro's right on the crop, but I'd disagree on n_millard's opinion on the vertical axis - the off-angle of the large pipe, while also being the case in person, also lends to the fact that this is in an abandoned place, without having to bluntly illustrate that by showing a huge portion of the site. I'd maybe use photoshop's lens correction filter (or one of the many other programs available to non-mac users) and get rid of the little bit of barrel distortion, and maybe straighten up the left side of the brick arch to the vertical axis (which would put more emphasis on the skewed angle of the large pipe). My two cents and then some. micro - excellent use of the word vapid.
