Macon area photos

Hello all, I have been interested in UE for a few years now, but have just recently started exploring a good bit. The Macon area has some unique places to visit, although I would like to branch out and find some areas in other parts of Georgia. I just found/joined this site and thought I would share some of these photos with everyone.

This is my favorite old building in Macon. It has such a unique look. I am not sure what it was used for, although I believe it was to load coal, water or something else onto trains. We didnt get to the top two floors/rooms on this one because there were hornets in the open doorway near the top that you can see in the picture. My friend and I who explore together simply call it, The Tower.

A shot looking up the stairs that climb the outside of the building.

We ran across this homeless man at The Tower. He knew we were there, but wasnt aware that this picture was being taken of him.

This building seemed a little boring from the outside. The front part is still used as a boxing gym. The back is abandoned. We call it Building A.

The top room in Building A, The Big Room. Very interesting room, lots of cross beams at odd angles and empty space.

A hole in the wall, Building A.

This was taken inside Mosquito Mansion. Its near downtown in Macon, and infested with swarms of very aggressive mosquitos. I dont have any outside shots of this one.

Door to Darkness, Mosquito Mansion.

This was taken at the old Byron Speedway.

Thats all for now, although I have a ton of pictures of most of these places if anyone cares to see. Im really excited about finding this site. I know of a good many places in the Central Georgia area. This area has a lot of good exploring, with old buildings, abandoned missile bases, skybuckets through the swamps and many other mysterious places. Im looking forward to learning about new places and maybe helping some of you find some of my favorites too.

Beautiful pics, all of them. The first one looks like 3 or 4 random buildings stacked one on top of the other!

WE CAN MAKE IT IN MACON !

Anyway, its a cool town. I would I could spend more time there. If you like Macon, you will love Dublin, GA.

This isn't boot camp and you are not a ninja. But you sure look like an idiot in that outfit.

Macon Bacon!

Isn't there a rather large abandoned (at least it looked that way in the summer) multi tiered driving range near interstate around there? I saw it during my trip up to the mountains this summer and it looked insane!! Like a 4+ story driving range. Don't remember its exact location on the 75 corridor though.

Yeh, its very visible from the interstate. Right off of 1-75 at the Hartley Bridge Road Exit just a little south of Macon. Right below the 1-75/1-475 split if you are heading north. Its only two stories though, not four. The driving range part is unused, but I believe one of the other smaller buildings behind it is in use. I have been meaning to get by there, hopefully I will soon.

Hrm...either it must be deceptively tall for a two story building or I'm going insane. Creative memory I suppose .

Hey!

I've been trying to figure out if the 'A Building' is abandoned for about two months now!

Anyways, great to see another person in the area.

Well, there was some newer stuff in there. But it seemed to me that it was being used as a storage facility at best. We went in on a Sunday, just to be sure. Let me know if you want to go check it out sometime, I would love to go back in and get some more pictures. We are also planning another trip to the tower sometime in the near future if you would like to come.

That would explain the activity around the A Building I see every now and then.

Any thoughts on this building?

I know it's up for sale, and it's got a heck of a history. So far I haven't been in, but it looks interesting.

A few more pics for reference. And because I'm addicted to them

Where exactly is that located? It looks familiar, but I am not sure where I have seen it before. Looks like a great site for some exploration though. You have never been inside?

It's out on Napier. I haven't been in yet, as I have to get the rest of my crew roused. And they can be slow to rouse if it involves much driving.

I may have to try to take that in Sunday, if I have time. Big plans that day. Do you know anything about the old Northrup-Grumman plant in Perry?

Nope. I don't go out much in that direction.
