	I’m in the market for some high powered Binocular I’ll need them to be high powered (10-30x60) would be a good range to have, They need to be light weight, durable, and hopefully not to expensive. I would like to see clearly up to a 1,000 yards. But I do understand that you can’t have everything so I’m willing to pay a little more for quality. The problem is I’m afraid I don’t know a lot about binoculars, so what brand, makes high quality binoculars, is there a make or model I should stay away from? Thanks for the help. 	What are you planning on using them for? 20x or 30x binoculars will have to be mounted on a tripod to be used, as the image will be unstable just holding them in your hands. These will also give poor performance in low light, due to their very small exit pupil size at high power. Exit pupil = objective diameter / magnification, so 20x60 binoculars have an objective diameter of 60 mm, a magnification of 20x, and an exit pupil of 3mm. As human pupils can dilate to 7 mm, so these will give poor performance in low light. For low light you want an exit pupil of at least 5mm. Another thing to avoid is zoom binoculars. The zoom mechanisms are fragile and easily damaged, the reason why all the expensive maker don't offer them. As I said at the start, ultimately, it comes down to what you want to use them for - I use a 40 year old pair of 6x30 binoculars from Germany, which suit me fine.

What do you mean when you said zoom binoculars, I'm thinking that is the once that can look closer just be moving a button or nub on them. Space for rent

The 10-30x60 you mentioned are zoom binoculars, since you can change the magnification to zoom in on an object. The 6x30's work fine for my everyday, but I also have a pair of 10x50's for more reach. Its the ratio of objective and magnification that's important. For night you want a minimun of a 5mm exit pupil. If you can find them, look for some 7x50 binoculars - that will give you night performance at night. You might also want to check ebay out. Lot's of good binoc's there.

But remember, with ebay it's buyer beware - binoculars are expensive to repair if the prisms have become misaligned.

	I use cheap model you can buy at Wal Mart or Academy. I've used it for UE for about a year and had no problems. These binoculars are simple,compact and effective and if they get damaged ...it's no big loss. Life is hard, but it's harder when you're stupid.

	I have a small bushnell pair of binoculars. They have lasted me almost 5 years, and are still going strong. Despite being dropped, shuffled, squished and stored out of the case for too long. The lenses haven't scratched at all.
