| | | I have seen what's left at point grey a few times and the bunker exists at Ferguson Point. what about the one on the north shore under the First Narrows? Have you looked? Because I didn't see anything there. N.

That's the first I have heard about a battery there too. What I have heard is there was just the 'triangle' of cannons covering Atkinson, Ferguson, and UBC. The one under First Narrows might have been a smaller battery thus not mentioned often.

| | | So I started doing a little digging, and talking about the Point Grey guns I read there was three, two surviving, one as a memorial one destroyed in 73.I remember looking through the woods there trying to find ruins of the second one to no avail. Has anybody ever found the second one? N.

| | | I don't know which of the three this is, but the gun near the Museum of Anthropology has been removed. However, the hoist is still there. I found a photograph of the insides dating from the 50s, where you could see the tunnel that leads from the ammo storage to the hoist, where it can be then loaded into the gun.
More interesting are the bunkers that store anti-personnel ammo, and seem quite large judging from the visible concrete.
They've got a padlock on them. I'm very close to them (5 minute walk) so if you guys are planning on being in the area, let me know.

| | | At UBC, there are 2 search light stations, and a gen shack, (now all weld up),just north of trail 6 (Wreak Beach), on the beach. Behind the Anthropology museum is one gun battery. At Stanley Park, there is a search light station above Siwash Rock. I have been lucky enough to get into all of these before they were welded up. The one on the north shore was destroyed due to the fact that is was on Squamish nation land, (I believe).
I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too! |

| | | The one I am interested in is the one behind the museum of anthropology, I came across some UBC senate minutes saying the 15th field had been restoring it since 1991. Initially I heard rumours of abandoned pill boxes around UBC but I think they were probably referring to the emplacements. Thanks for all the response's and info, I plan to try and get to them all, I am also curious about the boundary bay emplacement, as boundary bay is relatively untouched, maybe so is the emplacement. Anyways Cheers all. T.L

| | | I believe there are also pillboxes at the bottom of the cliff, at the foot of the beach. They've only recently locked all the structures (I think with Abloy padlocks), and welded on grates. [last edit 11/10/2005 9:00 AM by Anavrin - edited 1 times]

Have you been there yet? As a child I used to hang around there a lot, and down in the light towers on the beach. there used to be some buildings along the cliff but they were removed before the errosion got to them. If I remember correctly there is some small structures in the woods as you head down towards Tower Beach...I think. The gun turret by the museum has been restored, I find it quite fascinating and would sure like to know if there are remains of another, but you know, if we didn't find it as kids it probably is not there. | | | I remember either hearing something from a friend of mine (works for the city) or reading it some where that the point atkinson one is infact the lighthouse that HarbourLynx-Teen is talking about. Sad way to see a WWII relic go. Does anyone know of any other batteries or placements around vancouver and the out lying area? I know that there is quite the display of power south of the border, but what do you expect from the excited states of america? haha

| | | Thanks for posting this. My grandad who fought as a resistance fighter in poland and germany and later as a u.s soldier visited b.c after the war. He saw the emplacements while they still had the guns on them. He said they were huge like ones a cruiser. anyways just thought id mention that
