A couple nights ago i went scouting around the outfall of a local drain system. i was just out to take some pics and get ideas for what to bring when i went back with a group. when i walked a little ways into the mouth of the drain i noticed a large amount of particles floating in the air, large enough to be caught in the light of my maglite and camera. does anyone have any ideas on what this stuff is? i'm pretty sure the outfall is to a storm drain, and i don't what kind of junk would be floating around in these drains. should we bring respirators just to be safe?

well, my name is actually supposed to be benagain, but i messed it up and now i'm stuck with my aim screen name for two months. woo hoo.

Sounds like condensation from the wet warm drain air meeting the cooler outside air. I've seen the same effect in drains and caves a few times in the winter. If you go a ways into the drain it will probably go away. But don't worry about it, just water.
