Green train bridge east of second narrows

as your driving over second narrows there is a green room suspend well above what i think is a rail swing bridge.. anyone get into it of have stories to tell? ive i've stared at it for 9 years wondering... why does a building/ room need to be suspended hundreds of feet up in the air over a train bridge? I thought maybe something on Wraiths but doesnt seem like it

It seems you've just been looking with your eyes closed.

No wraiths have been there (to my knowledge) though I do think one explorer I've met has been there...

My interests range far and wide, but I do tend to prefer large places and places most won't try to go...

I've talked to a guy who knows a bit about trains, and seemed to know about the bridge recently. It's not a swing bridge, it's the C.N. north shore Industrial line bridge, that goes into a 7km tunnel at the south end. the other end of the tunnel comes out at roughly willingdon and the freeway,(just north of MC dick's). the room with lights is for the bridge controller, who actually needs to be able to see trains get off the bridge, and boats clear the bridge underneath. He also gives authorization for trains and boats alike. He also has a camera at each end of the bridge lift joints, and at the tunnel north end,(the one at the tunnel end moves, and is on motion sensors). The other rooms up top seem to be machine ro0ms for the lift. I also have been looking at this bridge for a while..very interesting!

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me, and it'll happen to you, too!

I can't exactly recall, but that is at least the second rail bridge that is there. At one point it had a lane or lanes attached to the outside as it was the original vehicle crossing bridge. The former bridge had a history of being hit by large boats/ships and at one point was closed down due to lack of financing for repairs.N.

No room to walk in that tunnel!! Don't even try!! That tunnel is meant for trains, not people. Trust me when I say that trains often, 10-15 times a day go through that tunnel....fast! There may be enough room to sneak in, but trains often, more than you would think, have peaces of metal, or dragging equipment hanging of off them! If , say, one wanted to see a train tunnel, meant for trains, one would want to be on a train!!! ya get it? gooood!

PS: Trains are also dangerous, so stay away from them too!!! MUAH HA HA HA HA HA!!!

I have a train history book for BC, and there are a few pictures of the original train, car bridge.............right you are Kenny!

I went through that tunnel (S to N) last night with 5 others. I agree, the spacing is TIGHT. But, there are areas of refuge every 500m or so. And about 1 million rodents. It took us 2.5 hours or so (with beer-breaks) and in that time three trains went through. There are no warning lights or sounds, only a gentle wind that becomes gradually stronger as the train approaches. Then you see the light, then you run and hide (back or forward, depending on how close you are to the last refuge!!!). Also, and this is the coolest thing ever - hard to get with the camera, but there is phosphorescent fungus or something growing on the roof. It is pitch black (and HOT) down there, but after the train light or flashlight is off in some spots, the roof GLOWS! Awesome. See my post in the "tunnels of vancouver" section.

I am thinking about checking out the "Fast Cats" in N. Van soon.. anyone know about security levels there?

Cheers!

PS - Nothing like a FAST LOUD train rushing by about a metre away, in a close tunnel. Also, the train creates a vacuum effect and pulls you toward it. Crazy.
That tunnel was long long long. I thought it was 4.5km but you said 7??
Definitely insert through the South portal, there are awesome tags there too.
