varies from site to site, but most of the comm sites that i've been to on roof tops have no been alarmed. You would need to get through the building first though. conversly all of the real "comm sites" that i've done work at are always alarmed; atleast the building, some times the towers have some kind of sensors on them also

i would say the two are unrelated. you can have cell towers on regular buildings and those wont be alarmed necessarily... there is no correlation.. I think if a building has an alarm sticker on it.. thats a much better indicator of an alarm being present

It seems you've just been looking with your eyes closed.

I have explored buildings with telecommunication rigs on the roof, and the building has not been alarmed. In one particular case, all of the support equipment for the tower was on the outside of the building, so there was no need to install alarms. I would agree that it's going to change from situation to situation.

Just remember that microwave dishes are not your friends. Much more dangerous than an alarm

I would think if anything was alarmed it would be the room/shack containing the comms gear, and maybe any rooms with power distribution panels and the like.

It's fairly common for sheds or cabinets containing comm gear to be alarmed even if the building they are on is alarm-free. As long as you don't try to mess with the equipment you'll be OK.

The biggest risk when dealing with transmitters is that as anyone who gets too close to them can wind up blind, sterile, or dead. Read this thread

before going near radio communications gear.

yeh i know years ago me and my dad put a sign on a massive tower at a shopping cenrter and then a year or so later they filled the tower with dishes etc, and we recieved notice by mail that we were not to go with in 5-8 metres of our sign because of safety reasons and gave us the run down on the evil things, still to day the sign doesnt work it sits there un maintained, and you not allowed up there to pull it down.
