Rumors of an abandoned Retirement home in NC...

I have heard rumors from a couple of people here in North Carolina saying that there is an abandoned retirement home or asylum or something like that here in North Carolina and that this unknown place has been empty for a long while but it still has everything in it that it did before closing... bed's, clothes, chairs... etc. and that is supposedly looks as if everyone just up and left or disappeared. If anyone happens to know anything about this location in NC please write back.

Along 95 there is one, I can't remember if its in VA or NC though. It looks like your typical late 70's nursing home. I doubt that is the one they are talking about, but its there.

Holy shit, nice pic in front of the Plantation Inn. When I moved there from New York in 1985, that was the place we stayed at before moving into our new house.

Anyhoo, it's been 10 years since I lived in Raleigh, and I seem to remember a bunch of stuff up and down both US-1 and I-95, especially north of Raleigh.

Awsome... if you search the plantation inn on yahoo or google you can find sites to try to book a room which is funny because the place has been empty for years now and is way way way run down... the main building's stair case fell down and some of the flooring is collapsing... actually I just heard from a friend of mine that they finally tore the whole thing down.... Last time I was there about 2 months ago they were starting to tear down one of the buildings but It appears there is no more plantation inn. If you can think of any other locations around Raleigh let me know. thanx

I read about this place on another website, they had been there to conduct "investigations," but I can't seem to find directions to this place anywhere. If I could just find out what city it is in or near, then I could find it. Did anyone ever find anything out about this place?

I know there's an abandoned nursing home somewhere in the Raleigh vicinity. I think it was a Brian Center.
There used to be a website that had pictures of it (www.crittervision.com), and it looked like there was lots of stuff left behind, but the pictures are all gone now because the webmaster took down basically his entire site.

Also, there's a "ghost hunting" group that has an "abandoned care facility" listed:

http://www.haunted...gation_carefac.htm

You might try talking them into hooking you up with some directions.

item one- I'm currently in and around Raleigh looking for exploration opportunities.

item two- there was an abandoned nursing home in clemmons NC that had clothing, food, knocked over wheel chairs and pictures as well as all files and offices intact aside from some minor vandalism. I'm not sure if it has been reoccupied or not, but i think it closed down in the nineties and is quite new looking/non decrepit on the inside. Not that i've ever been in there. Ever.

Item Three- i've done a lot of research on the subject and cant find any abandoned asylums in NC. They are either museums now, or are still in use. Let me know if anyone has any new info though, i'm always willing to admit i'm wrong.

Oh yeah I forgot to mention that in case anyone didn't know Dorathea Dix mental hospital may be closing soon and that means it will need to be explored.

I have been there a few months back but there wasn't much to see. We were looking for an old dirt road there that people have all these stories about creepy stuff happenning and some really really old buildings there but we could not find them and the neighborhood that is right next to the hospital... I think for recovering people????? they didn't want to help us at all and they were really creepy. Anyway just try to stay posted about Dix because it should be closing sometime soon.

Hasn't NC State already bought up the property for when it finally closes though? If they're going to use the land to put up a campus extension, they'll probably either tear down the buildings soon after or have construction crews and security there constantly renovating for a campus.

That being said, I'd most likely be up for getting to it before it's gone anyway. No risk, no gain... and that place has great history.

I havent read anything about NCSU buying it. I do know the Raleigh City Council has been discussing what to do with the land at many of their recent meetings. When I get some time, I'll research DD and see what I can come up with. There's a few other opportunities I am looking at first.

Got my information skewed along the way, I think. After some more reading, I think State's planning on having a hand in the project, but not buying it for themselves.

You'd think I'd know the facts were, living here and all.
