| | | | I'd imagine the guy already at the top makes sure the grappling hook is secure. I'm not a big fan of using only one anchor. In fact there is only one situation where I've done that a few times. Two anchors are possible, but it also makes getting caught or people fucking with your gear much more possible.

I'm saying that blindly trusting a grappling hook where you have no idea what it is on is a dumb idea. I know that it can work sometimes, but I'm not going to be the guy who finds out it was caught on a rotted pipe from over 2 stories up.

actually it sounds pretty sweet, one disadvantage for ue is that youre never sure if your anchor point is stable enough to support your weight.

|  | | | Sup fellas!! I have been reading this site for a while now, along with my buddy pravus, and this threed caught my attention, so this is my first post. We have been doing some minor UE for a long time now, and it pretty much started with construction sites because we were looking for places to do rope accending and decending/rappeling. The infiltration and exploration turns out to be really really fun. And although we do it mostly for the exploration now, we always have hour climbing/rappeling gear with us in a backback. If you practice, a grappling hook can be very useful and if your careful, can be safe. But you are not careful, can also be very dangerous as me and pravus will say from experiance. Just my 2 cents. Once you get the hang of getting the hook where you want it's not all to dangerous.. although you'd be a moron not to test if with a couple tugs and maybe hang on it for a few before you go up and if it starts to shake or slide get off of it and watch for the hook coming down on you. it's pretty much common sence, if you just blindly throw the hook into a pile of random rusted out rebar and rotting wood and you just shoot up that thing as soon as the hook lands you kinda deserve to take the fall... although even if your carefull you'll eventually loose the connection at least once.. you just have to be aware of what you are doing
