NORTH VANCOUVER/CKNW(AM980) - More details will be coming this morning about the buyout of a nine properties where a mudslide came down in North Vancouver in January.
About six million dollars will be spent to buy the properties,
District mayor Janice Harris says the families don't have to accept the offer, but expects they will
"No, it's not mandatory, um though I think the homeowners are welcoming the buyout, as you mentioned at full market value. That means they'll be able to get on with their lives."
The district of North Vancouver will buy the properties and will be reimbursed by the provincial government.
The land will eventually be turned into a park.

However, as the whole affair stems from houses sliding down an embankment, I'd suggest the UEers think carefully before entering one abandoned house along those muddy banks.

|  | | | I might be wrong, but I think the houses they will be buying are the ones at the BOTTOM of the hill. When there was a landslide last year, it killed an old prof of mine from Capilano College. Her house was at the bottom of that hill.

| | | | Ive heard 2 different sides to the buy-out. One being the purchase of the houses on top of the hill and the other being the purchase of the houses on the bottom of the hill. Either way should lead to some interesting....yet slightly dangerous UE.
